I have been looking idelly at the later barbarians lists, and they seem a little hard to work with!

now i worked out a possible vadal list now i suspect i do not have the skill to get it to work, but do others think they could get this to work, or is it just too much to do?
IC
TC
12 HF, protected, Average, undrilled, impact foot, swordsmen.
12 HF, protected, Average, undrilled, impact foot, swordsmen.
10 HF, protected, Average, undrilled, impact foot, swordsmen.
8 HF, protected, Average, undrilled, impact foot, swordsmen.
6 LF Unprotected, Average, Undrilled, Bow
6 LF Unprotected, Average, Undrilled, Bow
4 Cav, Protected, superior, undrilled, bow, swordsmen
4 Cav Protected, superior, undrilled, light spear, swordsmen
Allied TC
4 Allied Lh unprotected, average, undrilled, bow, swordsmen
4 allied LH unprotected, average, undrilled, bow, swordsmen
Allied TC
4 Cav protected, Superior, undrilled, lancers, swordsmen
4 Cav protected, Superior, undrilled, lancers, swordsmen

now i'm left with 2 conflicitng impressions, first the 2 allied contingents will probably be hassle, and the averageness of the core troops means they need generals of which there is just one. however without the allies there seems to be just too much samey foot which seems to need generals to get anywhere, at least one of the allies seems pretty much required just ot get a bit of flexibility into the list however is 2 too much?

not in any danger of trying this list for a while (swiss and italians to paint before anything else) but does it have hidden depths or just hidden issues ?

I have used Early Vandal many times and always take the Alan Ally. Dont know about the second one. Allied commands can make things tricky but usually work out OK. I have used The Atilla Hun option with 2 allies and a lombard army with three and they worked well. You need to be very careful with deployment and comitting generals to combat.

I wouldnt take an IC with this army (especially with 2 allied commands) and I prefer the warbands in 10's.

Good luck

I ran Attila's army and the problem I found with 2 allies was that the HF really needs a general with it to give it some oomph. But the single TC can't be everywhere and if you lose him then you're in trouble. So 3 TCs and 1 ally TC may work better.
