I have allied general I lost panzer general but anyway to answer your question this game looks like it is a updated version of panzer general and the only thing i was really comparing to pg was the graphics and hex map. I have no clue how this game will play or what type of rule set it may use. So I am hoping for a game that builds on the best features of panzer general i am sure it will be more complex then the PG series.

Allied General and the whole rest of the series were not as good, IMO.

PG was awesome, then they dumbed it down and started churning out clones.

Pity my foolishness, I actually bought Allied General and Fantasy General.

And S_O, buddy, come on. At least try to be a bit more positive about EAW, please? :) :) :)

I thought parts of allied General was harder then PG, case in point try playing the Russian campaign. I found allied General to be about the same as PG but the game kinda went to crap after PG II. oh, and I have Peoples General. Its cool, I like it. plus it was free.

Hey I am positive - positive that it should not resemble PG!! 8)

The game looks good - I am hoping it will be better than mediocre - SC2 looked good too, but has fundamental flaws that have limited it to mediocre - I've seen enough mediocre WW2 grand strategy games dammit - I want a GOOD one!

Its true it really looks like Panzer General, which is a very good thing :D Panzer General was great but a little light, and CoEW seems to have a lot more depth. I am really looking for this one! In fact I am waiting for two Slitherine games: Legion II and this one. Any estimations for a release date?

Looking like PG may be a good thing, playing like it would be bad....

Panzer General always had you trying to capture a certain number of objectives before Turn X, even when you were supposedly in a defensive role. There was never a "Hold these objectives until Turn X".

Initiative was often more important than actual fighting strength, and the result was usually random and bloody. Either you got the first strike, where you got to take out a few units and left any surviving opponents suppressed, or they got first shot, which meant that you took it in the shorts and probably did little or no damage in return. There weren't too many results in the middle, even between fairly balanced opponents.

Otherwise, it was an excellent game, especially compared to the alternatives.

In CEAW, there acually is both a capture objective (to get a win) and a hold objective (to get a draw). The winner in CEAW is decided on how many Major Nation Primary Capitals you conquered meaning if Axis hold Berlin and Rome at mid 1945 while Allies hold all other Major nations then it ends in Stalemate DRAW, score 0-0

If Axis hold Berlin+Moscow against Paris+London+Washington+Rome would instead be a 1-1 score but still a DRAW.

Say, Axis instead hold Berlin+Rome+Paris while Allies hold London+Washington+Moscow that would be an Axis Victory, 1-0 score.

I played PG several years ago, and I found it really fun to play, I like Kursk scenario.

And if I want to apply beta version tester, should I play PG once again to refresh memory and get some skills?

Once again, we agree :)

The Kursk scenario in Panzer General was awesome; a massive, chaotic bloodbath, just like in real life.

In so many ways, Hitler was such an idiot from 1942 onwards. Attacking straight into the teeth of a massively prepared defense like that was just insanity.

If there is one thing that hasn't changed since the advent of the breech-loading rifle ~125 years ago, it is that the defense enjoys a strong tactical advantage, and a smart attacker goes around the flanks, not "hey diddle diddle, straight up the middle".

Off the topic

That reminds me of Fantasy General, I bough around ten years ago.
You know IME standards and there are other programs which occupy DOS's conventional memories.
So, if you want to play Fantasy General with your PC setting in Japanese, you must alter some configs and so on.
Thanks to Windows 95 and later OSs, there is no need to write batch files on your own.

And what I want is the content, not apperances. Yes, I'm sure if it looks a lot different, things go relativelly or a lot easier,
for exsample, when you introduce CEAW at some site, first things people watch is graphic.

though, game's graphics are kind of cost pusher, could bankrupt gamehouses.

I do remember one defend role, playing as Russia you had to hold some towns till the end otehrwise you lost, it was quite hard to from memory.

Although I enjoyed the PG series of games, their scripted nature finally got very old. I certainly hope that this game will not fall into the same trap! I much prefer open-ended games, especially on the strategic level.

There is no variation tree in CEAW AI, meaning the AI will not have triggers that make them do certain action instead the AI is very generic and would work well on any map with other countries than the ones in WW2. From the very start of the AI design, I neglected scripted events and instead went for decision formulas. That means AI go through all possible moves and evalute them picking the seemingly best one (plus that there is some random involved into the formulas).

If this game ends up like PG, that's okay by me. I could careless about the A.I.
