Confusion about Support and shooting

Just want to get it clarified ...

When exactly can a BG support another? It has to be adjacent, and in the manual it says "Not attacking or being attacked in the current combat." I assumed that this meant "at all this turn", but I'm sure I've seen groups support that have to melee that turn. Can someone elaborate?

With shooting, a PBEM opp pointed out to me that you can't shoot at a BG that's next to your unit. I know it's true, but where in the manual is this?

TIA

Can't help with the first part as I'm just as confused on support.

However the manual does not say you cannot shoot at adjacent BG - probably just an omission to state what they thought was obvious.

Are you aware how shooting is handled in the impact combat, i.e. a BG with missiles gets more attacks to reflect their fire as the enemy charged towards them?

Just clarifying - I don't mean shooting at a BG that a BG is in melee with. I meant that you can' t shoot at an enemy BG that is next to one of your own BGs. I couldn't find that in the manual.

As for the second part - yup that seems clear. In the manual it says it applies to medium foot with bow, crossbow or longbow.

If you are adjacent to an enenmy even if it did not charge you or attack you, you are locked in melee with it and will have to fight it during your own turn, until one of you breaks and your archers are no longer locked in melee and can pick up the bows and shoot away again.
If in melee they have probably dropped the bows and pulled out whatever sidearm they carry and are fighting for their lives.
