Cohesion tests

The situation:

A1A1C1 less than 2 mu A2A2A2
B1B1B1 less than 2 mu B2B2B2

A1 is my unit, A2 is my other unit and C1 is my commander. B1 and B2 are enemy units. Now in the Melee Phase, my unit A2 loses and takes a cohesion test, but makes it.
My unit A1 wins combat, but the commander is slain by a lucky dice roll from unit B1.

Will unit A2 have to take a new cohesion test because of a dead commander within 3 mu or should the test already take have been taken with a -1 as it both lost a melee and saw a commander killed ?

Thanks

Esben

Check the sequence of play on p168 and you will see the test for the loss is taken after the combat and the test for the slain commander is taken at the end of the phase.

But tests for commander loss are dependant upon distance form the BG he si fighting with. And removing his base, which is only a marker, may make the loss too far away to test for in your example

It may be clearer just to quote the rule on p112 - "Measure from the nearest part of the battle group he was with, after removing his base and putting any troop bases he displaced back in their previous position."

So it is posible to take more than one cohesion test in a single phase - right ?

In the above, the unit A2 should take two cohesion tests ?

Just to be clear.

Yes. And if the commander died and his BG routed as a result of its CT for losing then the other BG's test at the end of the phase would have the extra -1 for having more than one cause (commander slain + friends break).

Which BG would you test for first then ?

A1 for losing commander or

A2 for losing commander.

If either of them breaks, it influences the other BG's cohesion test with a -1 modifier, so the sequence matters.

Yes it does, so choose the order wisely!
