I played their cousins the Medieval Scots against Alexander the Great 2 years past (to paraphrase I forget whom, you go to war with the army you have against whomever the other guy brought). My Longbow Skirmishers were better than I needed, so I'd endorse the poor LF for preventing enemy second moves and cheap filer. Both Knight BGs disappointed by stubbornly refusing to pass tests, allowing opportunity to tick over to crisis.
The wall of Spears - well, it had bad luck where I had a good edge but was steady against the opposing Pikes and Spears for a while, breaking one enemy BG before being worn down by Pike power. The Spears were in 2 10x, 2 8s, and 3 6s. Having just 6s with ordinary Spears is asking for trouble. 10 bases 4 wide (or 3 wide) use commanders more efficiently, and 8s are better at shrugging off shooting as well as absorbing close combat loss if 3 wide. The resistance of 8 bases to shooting is good at the end of a line. I like 6s as rear support.
