Restart 'forgets' settings

Minor niggle... when I quit out of FoG, it forgets that I have ticked the 'Don't show this again' box, and I have to go through the whole process again. It also doesn't remember my multiplayer password.

Cheers,

Keyth

I resolved by editing with Notepad the C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Applications Data\Slitherine\FieldOfGlory\engine-prefs.ini, replacing some "0" with "1" and setting it as read-only, I must write the password every time but the annoying 'Don't show this again' is disappeared.

Someone else had this issue - it is related to the game failing to write out the settings file properly. We're still not sure why it only occurs on some peoples machines but we're looking in to it.

It happens to me because I login on my XP machine as Power User, if I login as Administrator I have no problem.

How did you install the game, as a Power User or as an administrator? Also, did you install it to be available for everyone or just for the specific user? (I think you need to be logged in as an administrator to do the latter. If there's a mismatch between the installation account and the one you normally use when logged in, that might be the source of the issue. (I installed and run with an account with Administrator privilege in Vista and haven't had any problems. Not the best way to do it from a security point of view but I tend to be lazy.)

I'm probably the other person that had, and still has, this problem

I'm running XP, installed with admin rights and sign on with Admin rights.

I still get all the help pop-ups too.

If I tick the boxes and close them then it remembers while the game is running, but when I close and re-launch the game it's back to newbie mode again

I also get this error. Using Windows 7, installed and log in as administrator

We're looking into this issue, so don't feel it's been forgotten :)

I don't know if this helps, but the issue seems to have started for me when I started playing multiplayer with the same account on both my home pc and my work laptop.

Still no news on this?

Still ongoing. I appreciate it's a pain but sometimes it takes a while for things to get sorted through and then released. We also need to remain backward compatible so we don't force everyone to redo all their settings :)

Oh, I've just realised, I may not be XP (in its purest sense)... I'm XP Media Centre - I wonder if that makes a difference? :?

As no news from Slitherine, I decided to start fiddling about myself. Turns out that for me, if 'remember password' for Multiplayer is turned off, then it remembers everything else. Strange eh?

Are you sure its not just working everywhere? Can you explain exactly what you see when it doesn't work and when it does. It is certainly weird if unchecking that has any effect...

During Beta it occasionally saved my preferences but it was extremely intermittent. Now it is back to changing them every time. It is very frustrating, especially the first turn of the first battle to have the info screens pop up.

Having unticked 'remember password', the game then remembers my other settings when I quit - it doesn't continually flash up the tutorial messages. When I ticked 'remember password' again and then quit, it promptly forgot everything and started showing the tutorial messages again, as well as forgetting to eg show unit losses as a percentage.

Hope that helps.

Since I stopped ticking 'remember password' for Multiplayer, everything else now gets remembered.
