For a BG to count as support, does it simply have to be adj. to the friendly BG that is fighting? As in, can it be behind? Or to be classed as support, does it have to be up front, adj. to the enemy being attacked?

I've only seen the support message displayed for units adjacent to the enemy being attacked and I think the enemy has to be adjacent through one of their front hexsides.

Supporting units have to be able to have the option to attack a single target to add support so must be in front arc as was said above. Sometimes its a little hard to guess if the support will apply until you move the cursor over for the attack
