When I try to start the multi-player game, I get a message that reads: Please wait. Launching client...........and nothing......the screen is basically locked at that point, and I have to go into Task Manager to shut it down. It has worked fine on this machine, and it works fine on the wife's laptop. This is V. 1.03.

Thanks,

Dave

Its almost certainly your firewall preventing fognet.exe from accessing the internet.

Firewall,firewall,firewall...always the same answer! I am online 100% every day my internet is working just fine...but still, sometimes the connection ( 20% of the time ) works and sometimes not!! ( most of the time ) I have made NO changes at all to my firewall! and still sometimes it works..WHY?. It could be the firewall that is causing this problem, but please then, look into WHAT could be the problem that causes this mess!! I have spent 75$ on 2 games just to be able to play this game and i am getting realy disapointed hearing this firewall,firewall,firewall,firewall......give some sugestions as to what we can do!! PLEASE!!!

The odd thing is, that it has worked before with the same settings.........and with no problems..........working fine on my wife's laptop [with same anti-virus settings and internet provider.

What OSes are you guys both using?

Additionally, are you connected wirelessly and/or using a cable?

Just trying to build a picture of the commonalities.

Cheers

It is possible that Windows 7 has some networking oddness where sometimes the connection will tunnel out, and other times it will not. This would be especially true with wireless, as it will tend to use vendor specific drivers and IP stacks.

Let us know if this is a solution which continues to work and we can add it to the support sticky.

The game was developed on Vista and Windows 7 systems (as well as on Apple Max OSX systems!) and works 100% AOK on Windows XP, Vista and 7. The is no need to run in compatibility mode in any version.

The key thing on any 64 bit system is to make sure you take all the default installation options and do not take the install as administrator option unless Windows suggests this option during installation. Just install the game as it is supplied. Modify the installation at your own peril.

During installation on 64 bit systems (depending on your other settings) windows may ask you if you wish to re-install using its recomended settigs. Always say YES if given this option (if not offered it then there is no need)
e.g. Windows 7 will then change the install path from c:\program files to c:\program files(x86)

Norton, Windows & AVG firewalls all allow the game to access multiplayer with no modifications required. Basically take all the default settings and the game will install successfully and play multiplayer. So if things are still not working try uninstalling and reinstalling as above. If you cannot then access multiplayer then you must have a setting in your firewall(s) on the PC or router blocking access to the web by the game.

I realise this is an old thread, but just wanted to post on all threads about this issue in case it auto-notifies people.

Please can everyone who has the issue where the game gets stuck at "launching client" update to version 1.2.5, and try multiplayer again.

We've made some changes that will hopefully fix this issue, at least for some people.

If it still doesn't work, please post again, describing what happens and specifically mentioning that you were in version 1.2.5.

Thanks
