Unit route values

I have the PC game only. Tried several games against the AI and its good for training but not really a challenge. I can't really get further into it until after Santa 'offically' bestows the game on me (wink wink). Question though, why do all units have the same point value for victory conditions? I would have thought skirmishers would be maybe half a point if fraged, one point if routed. Anyways its been fun so far, but I am looking forward to multiplayer and scenario design and seeing how the game grows.

Cheers!

I think its because all units in this game really are worthwhile.
The lighthorse and light foot skirmishers can be a pain in the backside if used right.
They can do multiple things to help bring about your demise.
They can scare off enemy Skirmishers or trade fire.
Disrupt key units at key times making them drop a cohesion level.
They can pin enemy skirmishers in combat so you can bring in the heavies for the kill.
They can pursue heavier routers and make them continue to rout, no chance of rally.
They get behind enemy lines and attacked anybody who has rallied and stand a good chance of making them rout again.
You can use them to hold up an enemy advance. There gonna be killed but they'll last a turn or three first.
You can use them as a screen to protect key units like Pike from Bows/javelin/ etc.
Thats all i can think of for now

Sorry,but

is there any battle which is lost because of the rout of skirmishes?

I have the same belief like "Xiccarph"!

The loss of the HI shouldn't be counted with the same value point like the skirmishes!

Sorry "Jayraider", but this is really the "weak point!" of FoG!

This is the same as in the TT rules. I believe the basic inent is to prevent you from treating the "low value" BGs as throw away troops. As it is, you are distinctly penalized in the game for not being careful to keep vulnerable LF and LH out of harms way where they would be lost. You can use them to harass the enemy but not just blithely throw them at the enemy and not care if they are lost.

Each soldier is important!

or

Everybody counts!

But some of them more!

In the course of the battle the skirmishes leave the main field and the medium/heavy Infantry/Cavalry win or lose the battle!

I think all units should be valued equally as batesmotel stated - the player should be punished for using LF/LH as throwaway troops whether or not they are the decisive arm.

I agree that they are not throw-away, but I would think that in most cases it would be far easier to replace a few units of archers than it would heavy cavalry. Just my humble opinion. In any case it makes you pay more attention to the use of lights than you might otherwise. Enjoying the game.

Cheers!

I like that, reminds me of Animal Farm :)

I personally like the game mechanic as is, now if they would only allow us to continue playing past the rout point to finish off the enemy to the last drop of binary blood...

God! It's nearly 30 years that I read it!

But it was impressive!

I think the changes to date show we listen. Just because someone suggest something and we do not include doe snot mean we do not listen. We are a small team and to do every requested we may need the cast of Ben Hur.

There are lots of extra's on the way!

A little offtopic here, but since you mentioned extras...

I have noticed a nice Scythian horse archer png (unit-sycthian-LH-horse-archer-a.png) with all the facings in the units folder. Since the png is already there, could you please think about enabling the unit in the next patch? There is no such thing as too many horse archers! :D

It was only a joke!

You made a very good job and have a great respekt for your work!

Of course there are a lot of things to chance.

It's also another proof how favoured the game is!

Sorry for misunderstanding!
