Terrain Size: Initiative or Not...Large or small??

Have found that if you don't have the initiative, your chances of dropping terrain decreases in part because things sometimes just can't fit. I've been building a few smaller bits of rough ground, just so the 4MU x 6MU thingie will fit inside. Hopefully this will let me drop bits inbetween ol' Dead.'s open spaces.

Anyone else have terrain picking tricks to deal with dastardly steppe lovers?

Open ground hater! Wait till the Classic Indians get done some time next year, then it will be jungle jungle and more jungle, than we will see if Romans want more open spaces... sheesh Bloody Romans are so picky..

Try pieces with concave edges. If he puts a 12MU diameter open ground down make it so that it matches the curve at the right distance. However be sneaky, make some smallest possible areas of Open and place those yourself - leaves the biggest gap for whatever uneven he is forced to choose to fall into.

Blatherguts terrain is all kind of odd shapes, except for the open space template which is a big circle. Sometimes you just can't fit those weird shapes into a small space with the 4 MU restriction between terrain restrictions.

Always have a minimum size open in your toolbox (I use a standard 4x6 card). In argricultural, have an "open field' that is only 4 MU wide, but nearly 16 MU long. Surround with hedges/walls for "enclosed fields" when in developed. This will possibly restrict the use of the River/Road gambit. Remember that with concealing terrain long and narrow fits within a 12 MU circle, but still can be used to hide ambushes, anchor flanks.
