i'm no expert but is it right to make the english armies of edwards I and I I so longbowtastic?
was under the impression that weapon only came into its own during the hundred years war.

Oh yes - Edward I had something like 8000+ at Falkirk for example.

Certainly - after duffing up the Welsh by Castling, he took a whacking great wodge of Longbows up north to play north of the border.
Used the same tactic with the Welsh as he did against the Scots;
Wall of spears - massed close range archery, then the Knights went & creamed the remainder.
