Support is mentioned briefly on the On Map Icons help page:
When a support indicator appears on a hex this battle group is helping friends in combat by reducing the number of enemy attacks by one (down to a minimum of one).
I don't see any further references to this feature - could someone please explain further how this works?

For every adjacent enemy unit being attacked that could also attack the attacking unit this unit counts as supporting. This works both ways so both sides can get support.

For each such supporting enemy unit the unit loses one attack but never goes below one. See the combat help pages for how many attacks a unit starts with per combat (usually 4)

Does that help?

Thanks Keith, yes that helps. So this reduction in attacks is applied during Stage 1 of the combat mechanism (or prior to?) (ie determine the number of attacks). It would be a good addition to that help page to add in the Support modifications there.
