Feeding bases

This is one where I think what I would allow in a friendly might not be correct in a tournament.

xx22
y22
y
y

So x and Y are two enemy BGs fighting a BG of Chariots "2". The Chariots were 2x2 and stepped forward 2 MU into Y. That is all good, bases are all lined up and such.

Now the chariots lose a stand at impact. They then at the beginning of melee want to feed in onto Y BG. It should be permissable and is clearly the intent. So it was a friendly and we said sure. There was something blocking it moving to an overlap on X BG.

BUT
If that 3rd stand feeds in against Y bases, then the BG breaks as the depth of the chariot is 40mm and the distance was 50mm. So I suspect it couldn't feed in literally because the group had to maintain base to base contact.

Agreed?

FWIW I agree with you. I haven't rules in mind, but only logic.

not exactly sure what you mean by not maintaining contact with the BG, if you lost a chariot versus Y I can't see how moving another chariot into contact further down Y would make you lose contact with the BG facing X.
If the rear chariot that is left is not adding any dice to a combat it can be fed into an existing melee, so it should be able to move down to fight more of Y

I think they mean that the BG up against Y is in more than 40mm...it needs the rear BG behind it to keep in contact with the one fighting X. If the rear chariot moves away, the BG is not in base to base contact.

Agreed - you can't choose for a BG to not be in base to base contact.
