How do you play FoG?

We're interested in getting an idea of how many tabletop gamers we have here and how many computer gamers

I bought the PC game but didn`t like it. So FoG only.

Thanks for the post - it would be good to know what you didn't like and what you're looking for as we're getting very very positive feedback on the PC game. You do need to bear in mind it is based on FoG, not a simulation fo FoG so don't expect it to be a direct conversion of the tabletop game. We're planning to start running tournaments in December and the army builder coming not long afterwards.

90% (SUPERB) - Game Squad "Accurate; great unit graphics; accessible mechanics; fine multi-play; versatile editor."
No score - Flash of Steel "Field of Glory satisfies two itches at once. First, it is a very simple and very fast playing wargame, second, it is an ancients game"
No score - Wargamer "Wargamers who enjoy battlefields of the ancient are going to love this game"

I'll buy the PC game when it is availiable on a disk. So for the moment just miniarures.

We are looking at adding a feature to allow you to get a backup disk when you buy the download version. It would not be as pretty as a boxed copy but would give you the game on disk and everything you need to play. Is this what you are looking for or you want a full nice boxed copy. That's quite a bit more complex unfortunately so not going to be possible in the short term but if there is demand for it we can do it. Boxed copies like this will always be more expensive too.

My biggest beef with the software is that I have a Mac, not a PC.

If your MAC has PC emulation software (or can dual boot if it has an Intel processor), you can probably run the game. It doesn't seem to have very heavy requirements on the system compared to some other current games.

"... can probably run the game ..." is the key phrase here. Personally I run Linux and asked rather early on if the game would run under Wine or Cedega, but never got an answer. I also asked the developer that demonstrated the game at Britcon, but (not unexpectedly) he hadn't tried is so didn't know (shame on him, given that he was otherwise a Linux buff). :o
Since it seems there is also no demoversion of the game (at least I didn't notice one) to allow a test; I'm not likely to shell out the money until I find it listed as working on Wine HQ. I'm not enough into computer games that I care to buy one only to find out it won't work.

The Mac version is basically done but we are just working out how best to distribute it :)

This would be good for me too.

Marc, if you ever need Windows on a Mac, get VMWare Fusion or Parallels' Desktop. Both allow you to run Windows
(or indeed Linux) inside a virtual machine on the Mac. Sun has a similar free product called VirtualBox, but it doesn't
do 3D graphics yet, as far as I'm aware.

Or dual-boot with Bootcamp in Leopard or Snow Leopard.

Sorry iainmcneil

I didn`t mean it to appear a flippant post. I was hoping it would be a sort of introduction to FoG and would give me some insight into the rules, Which it doesn`t really do. Whilst the graphics are well done I didn`t really want a hexbased game but do understand that it would be difficult to have movement the same as FoG. I would have preferred to have seen something akin to FoG bases and a greater variation in troop types.

Quite a few people have requested bases that look more like a tabletop game so we'll look in to that.

Many many more troops types will come in the expansion packs. Rise of Rome has about 350 troop types and an army builder!

Yes, essentialy that's it. If I spend money on software I need it on a disk as this keeps it separate from crashing computers ect.

So this would I think solve my problem with it. Incidently, you could just make a downloadable print out to fit a cd box and that would give a box with some art work. useful for seeing were my game is among everyones games on our shelf.

Since this is market research I will oblige. I voted tabletop only. Reason is that I have basically quit playing PC games, due to FAR too much time and energy expended on MMORPGs that could be and often were changed on a whimsy.

Anyway, not doing PC games due to burnout. Not a knock, just a personal reason.

Hi

I'm with Skullzgrinda on this.

Tabletop game for me only. I spend all day working on a PC so I have absolutely no interest in playing on my laptop.

At the risk of being contraversial, IMO PC games are a major distraction from 'proper' Table Top games.

I would enjoy being proved wrong, but I don't see the PC version acting as a stepping stone for PC gamers to get into figure games, just the opposite.

Is this limited to FoGAM or does it cover FoGR? I only ask as I can play FoGR as badly as I play FoGAM. Does that help?
