Evening all, My name is Jack and I live in Vancouver Canada.

Last year I picked up the FoG rulebook and the Rise of Rome and Legions Triumphant books, and since then there has been many a late night (like tonight, haha) spent dreaming up lists. Lots of lists. However I have only gotten in a couple of games and my gaming buddies have all moved away. Tragedy worthy of Aristophanes, no 3.5 D&D or 40k anymore either. Thank Mars for hockey and beer.

I was wondering if anyone in my area played FoG and if so what scale they play in. I have some 28 mm Warlord Principate Romans and Wargames Factory Numidians, which I bought just out of there sheer coolness level, that I have been putting together with dreams of defending the Northern Frontier and Carthage respectively. But am easy either way, I love the look of the Old Glory 15s and Corvus Belli models so I am an easy sell for switching scales.

I have a fair bit of 40k scenery and a workable table, and also have family all over Vancouver Island and visit them often, so if you live on the Island totally feel free to contact me.

Anyway just thought I would take a stab in the dark.
Go Canucks

I wish I lived in Vancouver. Awesome city. As it stands, I live in Michigan, a loooong way away.

I like it here too, wouldn't want to leave for the world. But the weather here is often brutal, right now we are in the middle of a storm that is giving us winds of 60 km an hour for days on end, and double our usual November rainfall in 3 days !!! Flooding is a concern, and I live right on the waterfront in the harbour so I have a good seat for the destruction, cat is a bit nervous though.

But the beauty of my city may be all for naught if I can't find anyone to game with.

Do you have any games shops in the city? If so perhaps a notice in them would help.

True enough there are several quality GWs and FLGS, in my area. Mad props to Strategy Games and Imperial Hobbies.

Guess I was just hoping to save the bus fair.

The scale poll at the top of the thread may also have been a motivating factor.

Sweet post replies !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Although there doesn't seem to be a strong leaning to either scale.
Hmmmm.......
I guess its not beyond my abilities to start an army in both scales.
Or rather start a second/third one in 15mm, you know in case there is ever a tournament.

Have you spoken to Bryan at 50 Paces? He may well be able to put you in touch with people in BC he's selling his ranges to ?

Actually yes, but not about that. Although its a great idea, and I think I will, thank you Mr Axeman of Madness. My questions to Bryan were solely based in whether or not his prices where in Yankee dollars or Canadian Pesos or if I could shirk shipping and handling prices by taking a bus to his place, as we both live in beautiful scenic East Van. Its the heroin capital of North America !!!!!

I should likely mention that I don't use heroin. My drug of choice is gaming.

Always has been, always will be.

Ok so I just voted, with the recent purchase of the begining of my Old Glory 15s Carthaginian army I felt morally obligated to vote both. I do intend to finish my 28 mm Principate Roman list but in the brief amount of time I have had working with 15mm models (basically 2 days) I am totally in love with this scale, I am not a good painter and at this scale...... no one will ever know.

(insert evil laugh here)
Jack

p.s. I know I posted this in both the polls I started, it just seemed like the thing to do.

You should reach out to Bruce Meyer down in Tacoma. I know it is a touch far. He had a group of around 20 ancients players and has masses of armies. He'd journey north.

I forget what year it was but roughly 2001-2 that Enfilade the Pacific NW gamers held their beig event in vancouver and a bunch of came to visit so there are a fair number in long driving range.

A barbarian Invasion from the south ?!??! How deliciously backwards. I would love to talk to this chap, Tacoma isn't that far and I do have friends in Seattle, so this is likely do-able, I just got to paint and file and such first. Yeah I figure Tacoma is about a 4 hour drive from where I live, so that isn't too far, and Tacoma gave us Botch one of Americas best Hardcore bands so if I do go there I have to give out some serious high fives.

Travel distance is a bit of a problem in Canada, Vancouvers Hockey team's closest rivals are in Calgary which is 1057 kms away and on the other side of some rather imposing mountain ranges. Man I hate their team, but thats unrelated.

Currently firing up a blog for my new 15mm project but the only Camera I have is on my cell phone or my webcam, so I am trying to figure out which of the two sucks less for some pics. Maybe this afternoons forcast of snow will help compensate with good lighting. However laundry, cooking, the Simon Scarrow book I got out of the library and tonights Hockey game have my attention first, as does the bio I am supposed to write for my buddies band.

Why can't I just play with my new toys? Silly adult life always ruining my fun.
