game freezes on title screen

The game always freezes on the title screen for me and I have to ctr-alt-del to get to my desktop. The target line for the game's icon was set up as:

"C:\Games\Slitherine\Field of Glory\FOG.exe"

Is that the correct file to start the game in Windows 7? All drivers are current.

Thanks,

Do you have any other apps running in the background?

Can you please post you OS and system specs.

Cheers

No programs running besides FOG.exe.

I should say that the program doesn't actually freeze, it's running but the game itself never loads. After applying the new patch the game now stalls on the Osprey/Slitherine/HexWar logo screen and doesn't load no matter how long I wait. Doesn't matter if I'm online or not. Thanks for any help.

I think the problem is this:

1) "C:\Games\Slitherine\Field of Glory\FOG.exe" You customised the install folder.
2) You are using 64 bit Windows 7.

Now all thats ok. In fact I develop on and use 64 bit windows 7 myself. The problem is the default folder for FOG would look like c:\program files\slitherine\field of glory but Windows 7x64 would then install it to c:\program files (x86)\...

Also windows 7 would normally have asked you to reinstall using it recomended settings. So what I think you have is a 32 bit application (FOG.EXE) installed as a 64 bit application so it crashes.

The solution is a full uninstall and a full reinstall of FOG taking all the recommended settings and changing nothing.

FOG is 100% compatible with 64 bit windows but I think you need to allows windows to spot and install it as a 32 bit appliaction.

I hope that helps. Keith

Thanks for the quick suggestions.

I uninstalled the game, reinstalled to the default (x86) Slitherine folder, shut down all programs, patched to 1.01, but the programs still stalls on the company logos screen. CPU useage averages about 12% while waiting on that screen but I don't see any hard drive use, and the game never loads. Any other ideas please? I'd sure like to get FoG up and running while I'm on holiday. :)

Windows 7 never asked me about this but I did try running the game in both Windows Vista and Windows XP compatibility modes, but that had no effect.

There seems to be a graphical glitch on my "register\cancel\OK" screen. The register and cancel buttons are inside the launcher window, but the OK button is out to the right of it. The whole row of buttons is far enough to the right that the OK button sticks out past the window. Don't know if that means anything or not. My monitor's native resolution is 1920 x 1080, is there a recommended resolution for FoG?

I also remember some slight difficulty registering. Is it possible to have me unregistered so I can start that process over?

Thanks!

Are you running any background programs at the same time as the game?

The launcher not displaying correctly is very odd - it's pretty much a vanilla windows application. Could you perhaps post a screenshot for us?

I'm sure no background programs are running. I use two different programs to shut down all unnecessary applications before gaming. (and I've tried not using them).
The weird launcher window only looks odd when using my monitors native resolution. When I drop down the resolution the window looks normal. I would post a picture but have no site to upload it to. But, I still can't get the game to load. How can I redownload the original file? I can't find any page that allows me to do that.

Thanks again!

Have you tried running the EXE without the launcher? Navigate to the install directory and run the other EXE (not certain of the final version namings).

Let us know if the problem still persists.
