Music disobedient

When I set go to the audio settings, and turn down the music, the game will randomly set the music back up to full blast. I've started just turning the music off, and adjusting my main-volume controls to whatever level suits the SFX.

Here's a more indepth explanation of the problem:

1. Load up FOG
2. Start a game, let's say cynoscephalea
3. Open the menu, and go to preferences
4. go to audio
5. turn down music so it is set at 1/3rd of the bar.
6. Play for a minute
7. Oh dear, the music is now blasting out.
8. Go to preferences, music, and see that the bar is still 1/3rd full.
9. Click on the bar, and suddenly the music drops down to the correct volume, despite me not moving the bar in any way.

That's all :?

I wonder if it could be related to the animation speed preferences?

Can you post your OS and spec please.

Thanks

Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2 64bit
Core 2 Duo P8400 2.26
4gb ram
Geforce 9600M GT

and I'm not sure where to find the sound card information (actually, I haven't thought of sound cards since getting a Sound Blaster for my old DOS computer, lol), but here is what system manager lists:

IDT High Definition Audio CODEC
NVIDIA High Definition Audio
