WARFARE 2009 - Very Urgent

Warfare has more competitors overall than we know what to do with. The vast majority of the newcomers are WHx players (130+). We closed entries for these competitions two weeks ago and have been beating them off with a stick since!

The good news is that we have located a new room where the WHx players will be housed.

The bad news is that our beloved demo-games organiser has booked more demo games than ever, so I still don't have enough tables to give to all the DBMM and FOG entrants who want to come. They'd better be good... :o(

We are losing 2 FOG tables from the number that I had wanted/expected. We are having to turn players away as a result, and I am contacting those who are affected by this separately. There are currently three players who had sent in lists to me but whose cheques we had not received who I am having to tell I cannot currently find a space for. There are others who have phoned Ian over the past few days who he has simply had to take their name but tell that it is unlikely that we have space.

The decisions about who will have to be disappointed have been made on the basis of (a) those who have already paid, and then (b) who contacted Ian Colby and I, when. I deeply regret having to turn people away but have been firmly told that there are no further tables available.

There will be 18 entries in the Swifter than Eagles competition, 32 in the Rise of Rome competition and 10 in the Wolves competition, as follows:-

Swifter

David Fairhurst
Roger Greenwood
Martin Hayes
Ian MacKay
Charles Masefield
Nick Overland
John Patrick
Ian Stewart
Graham Briggs
Alan Saull
Bob Medcraft
Richard Bodley-Scott
Nik Gaukroger
Keith Martin-Smith
Phil Powell
Darrell Pearce
Harrison Pearce
Bruce Brown

Rise and Immortal

Pete Reilly
Simon Clarke
Peter Card
Rich Love
Alasair Harley
Jimmy Carter
Pete Dalby
Andy Ellis
Nigel Emsen
Byron Emsen
Lynda Fairhurst
Lawrence Greaves
Tim Porter
Robin Poulton
Chris Proudfoot
Dave Ruddock
Dave Saunders
Stephen Stead
Robert Taylor
Duncan Thompson
Wayne Dare
Kevin Ellis
Dave M Allen
Lance Flint
Graham Evans
Derek Bruce
Jon Akers
Martin van Tol
Andy Kitcher
Bob Amey
Paul Westmore
Simon Hall (umpire - may yet swap with someone from Swifter)

25mm Wolves and Decline

Steve Hacker
Ken Cooper
Tom Elsworth
Roger Draper
Simon Elliott
Andy Claxton
Don McHugh
Richard Jeffrey-Cooke
Steve Murton
John Dennis

As I am having to disappoint entrants, if you are listed above and know that you cannot after all come please could you let me know *immediately*, so that I can slot people into the space vacated. It would be very embarrassing to end up with an empty table on Saturday having had to disappoint other people.

On the assumption that this may repeat next year, we intend to do something on the website to "count down" the spaces available in all the competitions, and of course I can only urge everyone to get your entries in early!

Thanks everyone!

Hi Tim

Any idea when we'll have the runners to go with the riders?

Seemingly not. Any chance of publishing the fifteen Thracian armies in the Rise and Immortal period?

Don't say that Dave, I got trashed by Thracians last week!!

Mind you losing PBI when I was a 4 to his 1 wasn't a good start, and then all bad terrain ending up all across the centre of the table compounded it.

Yes Paul I did not help my cause by adding an impassable to the mix.

Sure hope there is that many Thracians and not to many EAP's.

We have had a couple of drop outs from the various comp.s and have therefore slotted in a couple of reserves, as well as making room for the 3 players I had initially e-mailed to say that they hadn't made the "cut". Sorry for the scare, again, lads!!

Although I now have lists (almost all checked and approved) from everyone on the initial list, there are still 1 or 2 awaited, so I can't yet publish.

That said, I can say that there are not 15 Thracian lists, and neither are there 15 EAP. I will not comment (yet) upon whether these figures are too high, too low, warm or cold. I intend to publish at the weekend. You have 48 hours to run Thracian sweepstake!!

Hi guys,

Here's the FOG R & R - enjoy! Apologies for the formatting - I can't work out how to set it out in a proper tabular format here. I did put in a bunch of spaces on each line, to make columns that way, but the message seems to strip them out!

Can you count the Thracians in the Rise of Rome period?

Wahay, it was worth being up at 1.05am on a Sunday morning playing FOG PC to catch this message.

Your mass of Thracians didn't materialise Dave. Does this mean your army is pointless now, unless facing Mr Evans, which is pointless for most anyway.

But more to the point, what do you want to practice against tomorrow?

Given that there are eight Late Republican Romans then that would be good...

They are but they are in the list of extra armies allowed by the notes at the back of the book in a Rise of Rome theme.

Simon Hall Reigate Parthian Umpire
Being a Parthian Umpire, does this mean Simon will be impossible to get hold of and pin down ?

More importantly will he be a Reigate Standard Parthian?

So we're sticking to the theme notes at the back of the books then.

Good news is the extremely boring list of armies is made up for by a lack of Pinner standard Romans (whoops, Thracians).

I'd like to quash any rumours that Mr Reilly is a Reigate player. Oscar Wilde comes to mind: "I wouldn't be a member of any club that would have me as a member"

Spoke to Simon this morning and unfortunately he's unwell and will not be coming.
