tell me if there is already a thread on this, it's a question falling out of another discussion.
i have a BG of MF that is charged in the rear by LH. two bases turn to face, and impact combat ensues.
during the movement phase, do i conform, or reform?
we've being playing conform (p.70), but it looks like it could be a reform? to date i've used *reform* when having to get BG back into a legal formation, and conform when aligning to a combat.
but, is "conform" only referring to the movement of the entire BG? while "reform" is only the BG itself changing facing to meet a threat (or not turning, as the case may be?)

When hit in the flank or rear the bases contacted must turn to face (OK, there are a few small exceptions but one base always turns). P56 last para
The enemy conforms to you in their movement phase.
You have the option of reforming the rest of your BG to allow them to fight but there is no requirement to reform to fight a flank or rear attack. P70 last para of reforming

Turn sequence, Manoeuvre Phase, first row: "Reform battle groups and conform troops in close combat to enemy."
So, if your MF battle group is in melee only with LH at his former rear, and your BG is in 2 rows, former first row turns back (and it now becomes rear rank) for reform rules, then if you need to conform LH BG conforms, since it was LH to charge you was in LH's owner turn. Reform can happen also in opponent turn, while conform is only performed by troops of player in turn.

Conform and reform are two totally different things. They are independent.
Conform means line up with enemy bases in combat.
Reform means adjust your formation to make it a normal legal one.
The rules tell you which you can't do, have the option, or are compelled to do. In some cases you may be able to do both.

Last bullet : A BG that has some of its bases facing the enemy currently in contact with its flank or rear is not forced to reform.....

Presumably you can only feed more bases in if you choose to reform to face the enemy ?

Honestly don't know - but can't find anything in the rules that makes reform a prerequisite of feeding bases?

different things i think.
reform is during movement, conform is what enemy does to you.
so, you would have reformed when you conformed after impact.
feeding in more bases is different, because you can only move bases that aren't contributing to melee somewhere.
