This scenario is a mostly historical recreation of the Guadalcanal campaign from Aug 7 thru Dec 7 1942. It uses a huge map created by Erik. It is based off his Watchtower 10.3. Due to the limitations of OoB to simulate Naval/Air warfare along with ground troops, some liberties with history had to be taken. Some islands representing Rabual, Gasmata and Buka for the Japanese are included in the NW corner while the US has Townsville, New Caledonia and Espiritu Santo on the southern map edge. The scenario is 42 turns long and should be a slugging match that lasts much of this time frame.

The battle begins with the US invading Tulagi, Gavutu & Guadalcanal. The Japanese have a carrier task force near Rabual while the US has one near the eastern edge. Both sides have additional naval forces to deploy initially to give players some freedom of strategy. The Japanese have a couple of additional task forces that arrive as reinforcements. There are a lot of naval units in this scenario since several historical engagements occurred in the area.

The ground battle starts at Henderson Field and will probably swing back and forth along the northern coast as troops come ashore. The ground reinforcements arrive at a single location for each side that must be kept clear of enemy naval forces. You must guard these locations or your soldiers will not arrive. Note that shore bombardment is deadly in this game. Ground troops cannot survive shelling from numerous ships.

Holding Henderson Field will be the key to controlling the air. It cannot be destroyed but can be captured. Whoever controls the waters nearby will control the airfield. Each side does get a construction group to build an intermediate airstrip. Please note that the airstrips can be destroyed by shore bombardment so you will have to decide how close is safe.

Hope you enjoy this scenario.
