Marine, Paratrooper. Mountaineer. which do you select and why? also if you upgrade later do the inherent traits like camouflage, unyielding, fast deployment remain with the new unit? thanks

The traits are tied to the hero that can be assigned to different units.

I personally choose paratroopers, but that is my preference.

Note that you can Upgrade a unit to a different unit type within the same class for the difference in Prestige and Slots with NO loss of experience; also, as a minor benefit you get Elite Reinforcements for the cost of Non-Elite. For example, Cavalry are great on maps with numerous roadless Forest hexes, Mountaineers on maps with numerous Hills and Mountains, Paratroopers on maps with swamps (to fly over the swamp) or airfields adjacent to Close Terrain (so they can drop, capture and move into safer terrain all on the same turn).
