In the Coral Sea scenario of the US Pacific campaign, I achieved the secondary objective “Destroy enemy fleet carriers” and thus got a green pushpin on the campaign map before the next scenario, Midway, with a caption saying, “The complete destruction of the Japanese carrier group at the Coral Sea reduces their strike capabilities in future engagements.”

Yet, when I deploy my first unit in the Midway scenario, a notice that is missing a photo appears, saying, “Failure to destroy all carriers at Coral Sea has allowed the enemy to deploy a stronger force…”

It seems that this notice appears regardless of whether the player destroyed the Japanese carriers in the Coral Sea scenario or not. Player CheechWizard also had this issue. Below is an excerpt from his post.
“…Also In Coral Sea scenario I sunk all 3 Japanese Carriers, and received green check mark for achievement. But when starting Midway scenario a notice appeared with large white box where photo should be. Notice informed me that since I failed to sink all 3 carriers I would now be facing much tougher Japanese force. So now even though I sunk all three carriers I will have to fight tougher Japanese force anyway. Very disappointing. I spent hours on Coral Sea scenario only to have bug ruin it during Midway campaign. I hope this can be corrected soon.”

Don't get your hopes up that anything gets fixed anymore.
Seriously.

But there's a "fix-pack" for the US/Japanese Pacific campaigns on the "Steam" forum of the game. Look into the "guides" section. The user name is "General ..." something. It works well.
