Ottoman army design?

Hi everyone

My current project is an Ottoman army and I borrowed a friends army for a tryout last night with disastrous results!

I used the full amount of janissaries along with 4 serbian knights and had a TC, sub FC, and ally TC.

With this makeup I had the following questions:

Firstly the knights and ally TC cost 117 points. I wanted them to open up opportunities on a flank. Are they too expensive for this purpose or is there a more effective way to use them.

Secondly if I had flank marched I would be left with 1 TC for all the Ottoman BG's. Should I have gone with 3 TC's and forgotten about a flank march?

Thirdly if I dropped the knights I could afford 3 TC's and an FC for flank marching. Does anyone prefer this to using the knights?

I would also be interested to hear on deployment and order.

Thanks

Rob

The Ottoman army can have many forms, which is probably why it is so popular, along witht he fact that has the best supporting infantry of all the shooty Cav/LH armies.
This is an 800 pt army that I used at Cancon (Australian Championships). It only has 1 unit of Janissaries, but I found that they were enough, especially when supported by the Janissary handgunners and Iaylars.

1 x C in C Inspired Commander
2 x Sub-generals Troop Commander
1 x 4 Qapu Khalqi Cv,Arm,Sup,Dr,Bow,Sw
1 x 4 Timariots Cv,Arm,Sup,Und,Bow,Sw
1 x 4 Timariots Cv,Prot,Sup,Und,Bow,Sw
2 x 4 Akinjis LH,Unprot,Av,Und,Bow
1 x 8 Janissaries MF,Prot,Sup,Dr,Bow,Sw
1 x 6 Azab archers LF,Unprot,Av,Und,Bow
1 x 4 Janissary Handguns LF,Unprot,Sup,Dr,Firearm
1 x 4 Iaylars MF,Prot,Sup,Und,ImpFt, Sw

I would use the knights as a reserve and send them where they are most needed. With their own general they are fairly maeouverable.

I usually like to flank march but with Ottomans you really dont need to unless faced by a wall of crap army that will stretch across the table. The Ottomans can perform on table flank marches quite well.

The Ottomans have enough light troops to deploy these first and then deploy the foot, leaving the knights and perhaps a unit of handgunners till last as the handgunners need good matchups.
