As both these upcoming comps have fairly restricted lists, anyone know if the date restrictions as well as the book apply as well ?
And what about out-of-book allies too?

I thought these were verboten as standard?

Bosporans with Dom Rom allies featured amongst my opponents at Warfare last year, and the romanized thracians also did well at Roll Call so I'm not quite sure if comp organising has yet caught onto what restrictions to publicise.

Warfare tend to do their own thing - it's not a BHGS comp - so maybe different rules apply?

Only allies in book only other armies in rear of book all date restricted IIRC it says so on the BHGS site.

I think Roll call have done it by date restriction. Pre 146BC, Pre 1066, Post 1150. Check the spiel on the BHGS site

The Romans in the Thracian list are not an ally, but a "Special Campaigns" option. The date restriction for the early period excludes the Romans from the Thracian list this year.

I can answer for Warfare, as I'm the list-checker.
For the two 15mm competitions, there are no date-restrictions, just the books. Out-of-book allies are fine.
For the 25mm competition, due to popular demand we have expanded it from just "Wolves" to include Decline and Fall, but imposed a date limit (for armies from either book) of 1040AD.
Please can I alert everyone to the fact that entries for Warfare received by 30 September cost £12, but entries after that are £18. This does not mean that you have to get your list to me with the entry (but it would be
really appreciated

), just the money for now!
Please could you all pass the info on about the lists and the entry-fees to anyone you know who is planning on entering!
Cheers,
Tim Child

Hi guys,
For those considering/planning for/booking hotels for Warfare, to come to the 15mm Rise of Rome and Immortal Fire competition, I need to issue an important clarification. We WILL be allowing entries in accordance with Appendix 2 of these two army books - i.e. in addition to the armies listed in these two books, we are also accepting Thracian, Syracusan, Galatian, Hellenistic Greek, Ancient British and Early German.
Cheers,
Tim Child
P.S. Entries received before 30 September are £12 per person, £18 thereafter. Get your entries in now!!

Does the date restriction in the FOG 25mm mean no Knights

Just working on my Nik Byzantines...

I think so - certainly scanning through the 2 books just now I can only see knights from 1041 or 1042 onwards, but I didn't set the lists, so you may have to make enquiries of those more expert than me.
I just checks 'em, yer honour!

10 days to go until the £18 entry fee for Warfare starts. Please send your £12-entries in now!
Lists do
not have to accompany the entry-cheque - but would nevertheless be very much appreciated.

I have had two in so far. Both have been correct, but subject to some spreadsheet-errors, which caused a moment or two's confusion.
For some reason, I always find that the lists submitted early tend to be correct, while the ones sent in at the last minute tend to be, shall we say, "hopeful". If you are wondering/guessing about anything (less of an issue with FOG-lists, I know), feel free to send in questions now, which I'll do my best to rule on.

When do the lists need to be in for both of these??

For Warfare, the closing date for lists is 31 October. Sooner would be very much appreciated. To date I have had four lists in for "my" competitions - all FOG. Thanks boys, you know who you are!
However, if you want to take advantage of the early booking price (£12, as opposed to £18 ) you need to get your cheque (which need not be accompanied by your list, nice as that would be) to Ian Colby by the end of this month (received by him, not posted by you on 30 September...)
