A first time for everything

I have been playing Byzantium in the long campaign, I have really been wanting to see the new gunpowder stuff in action. So far it is still just arrows for me though. However I have seen a few things I never encountered before.
I recently hit the max in Authority gain. It was quite odd, I was 14 regions short of evolving my empire when the emperor died and his son apparently was not as good or something because all of a sudden the game is telling me I am way over my demesne limit. Next turn it asks me if I want to evolve my empire and when I do my max demesne size is 99999., I don't think I have to worry about going over any more.
The other odd thing was while taking Egypt, to fulfill the restoration goals, the Muslim enemy asked for peace and offered to become my vassal. Maybe this is normal but this is the first time I have ever had an opposing religion volunteer to become a vassal. They still hated me, its not as bad now that they find vassalage is not so bad after all, although its only around -26 relations at present. Down from the -60 when they first became my vassal.
I also have an abundance of siege engines in the empire. I believe some of the ballista are actually breeding on their own as I have found them popping up in various cities. I don't have many issues in sieges, I even had to take some of my own level 9 cities down after a small civil war.

Siege engines can be provided for free from special buildings, or you can get them as non standard units with a decision.

As for the rest, some oddities are only rare ocurences, that players not often experience, but it's part of the game and not bugs (we have plenty of these though  )

Also played a game for a long time, in late campaign though, and still not gotten the gun buildings, really missing a something to tell you how far you are, I guess I still need to get to the correct army level as Abbasids, but I already can build gun boats and get culverins from decisions, but no power buildings.
