Generals leaving the table

I've always played that a Gen attempting to rally a routed BG will not leave a table if it fails to rally...
Is that always the case...
Can someone please explain page 50 and its impact on the above...
thanks..

I think you play it the right way.See P.110 - Commanders rallying BGs in J.A.P. The commander is lost with a BG that evades off the table or he is with a BG during the initial rout move of a impact/melee phase. Correct?

I do not have my rule book to hand, and so cannot look up a page cite. Is there not a line in the rules (perhaps under bolsters & rallies) that says generals do not need to rout with the BG they are with? Other than the initial rout, of course.

There is, p. 110 last bullet point: "A commander who attempts to rally a broken BG does not have to rout with it if it fails the CT."
So page 50 only applies if you voluntarily let him leave the table or (in the more likely case) of the commander being with a BG that leaves the table during the initial rout move.
