You have some buildings available to make sure your population grows steadily, if you want...
EDIT: Mmmhh...Herbalist and its upgrades??? I don't have the english version of the game...

Duncan is right, Herbalist, Doctor, Hospital and Clinic. You need Food Tech 1, 3, 5 and 7 respectively.
