The discussion of Swedish brigades on the beta board reminds me that Charles told me IIRC that the Royalists (?) used Swedish brigade formations at (?) Edgehill. Worth finding out and including in the army list if appropriate?

I believe that in my draft Early ECW Royalist list I didn't give them this and wrote a note about it. Basically I doubt they'd have had the training to do it and by the time of Edgehill the Swedes hadn't been using it for at least 7 years.

I got this from Stuart Reid's "All the King's Armies". This is a secondary source but reads as if there is no doubt. It was outdated at the time and considered "complicated" but was adopted because of the poor equipment of the Royalist foot, in particular shortage of muskets. That's why I included Swedish brigade as an option for the Royalists in 1642.

And in my Early ECW Royalist draft list I didn't - for the reason explained in the notes

I can also confirm that the Royalists at Rupert's insistence did use the outdated swedish formation at Edge hill muuch to the chagrin of the guy who had organised the units before the german princes arrival.

IMO is that the Royalist infantry would not have been capable of properly operating the Swedish brigade even if Rupert wanted them to - hence I have not put it in the list.
