Chaos Tourney IX - Closed

The tournament will run from April 5(Sun) to TBD.

Here's an overview of how it'll be run.

1. If there are enough signups, I will add divisions based on mirrored matches. In such divisions, you and your opponent will play using the same armies and map twice, once as each side. Divisions will be from 5-7 players for a total of 8-12 battles. You may sign up for a mirrored division, regular division, or both.

2. In the regular divisions, the number of matches will be contingent on the number of people who sign up.

6-7 two matches vs each player - 10-12 altogether.
8-13 one match vs each player for 7-12
14-26 Divide into two divisions, sorted by CT rankings, one match each for 6-12
27-39 Divide into three divisions sorted by CT rankings, one match each for 8-12.
40-52 Divide into four divisions, sorted by CT rankings, one match each for 9-12.

Rookie players will fill in divisions in the order they sign up.

3. All matches will be potluck for both armies and terrain, with both date and geography filters turned off. These are medium-sized battles, so 1200 points.

4. After a bit of research and experimentation, I have made a spreadsheet that can randomly generate 300 matches based on the current 731 lists. I create a match list once sign-ups and divisions are sorted. Then, I copy and paste a set of matches from my army list spreadsheet. Next, I review the match list. Players use or face a list only once, so any additional matches generated are replaced by the next available from the spreadsheet list. Any civil war matches are discarded and replaced in the same way.

5. Each player may unilaterally reroll the battlefield once. If both agree, an additional re-roll can be done. A re-rolled battle is to be set to the same armies as originally generated; only the field can be re-rolled. The option to reroll unilaterally can only be taken during the deployment phase. The player rerolling should surrender the match and post a new challenge using the same armies. Autoselect and autodeploy, then select the surrender option from the briefing menu.

5. The tourney will run a minimum of 8 weeks, with additional weeks added for battles over 8 to a maximum of 12.

6. In regard to other details, we will follow the rules and guidelines posted for TDC play.

7. Players need to own both Ancient and Medieval and all DLCs for both. We can accept one player per season per division who doesn't own all the DLCs. Such a player will need to have his matches created by his opponents.

8. The default battle type is OPEN BATTLE. If both players MUTUALLY AGREE, any of the other battle types can be played instead.

9. Points will be awarded for wins, marginal wins, ties, draws, and marginal defeats as follows . . .

4 points - for a win where the losing player has not scored 50% or more
3 points - for a marginal win where the losing player has scored 50% or more
2 points - for a tie where both players score 60% or more, or for a draw where a player has scored at least 25%
1 point - for a marginal defeat where the losing player has scored 50% or more
0 points - for a loss, or for a draw where a player has not scored 25% or more

To win a game, a player must always “rout” the opponent’s army. A "rout" occurs when an army breaks and 60% of its original troops are routed or dispersed, or if 40-59% of its original troops are routed or dispersed and the opponent has lost at least 25% less.

A draw will occur where neither army has broken by the match turn limit (24 turns), or at any point in the match by agreement between the two players. If both armies go over 59% and break on the same turn, that will be a draw as well.

10 NEW We will be using kronenblatt's LOS mod. This limits visibility in the game to a range of 9. There are several versions, and we will be using the basic one, which doesn't include no undo. You can download this in-game from the community content tab. Make sure you get at least the MP version. You need to install this mod in BOTH Ancients and Medieval. In addition, you will need a Time Warp version for Medieval. That mod isn't available yet, but will be soon.

If you have any questions or comments on this, please post in this thread.

Hello,

I'm in !
Interested to play mirors matchs.

I have all DLC for Medieval but I don't have (for the moment) Swifters than Eagles, Age of Belisarius and Immortal Fire for Ancients. If needed, I can make a (great) financial effort !

I can grant one exemption for DLC ownership as opponents can set up matches instead. It's better if you have all the DLCs, but you are covered if you don't.

Hi there Karvon

I'm interested to play with mirror! love the pot luck army approach and getting to try some interesting match-ups.

one minor q: what do you mean in this piece: "4. After a bit of research and experimentation, I have made a spreadsheet that can randomly generate 300 matches based on the current 731 lists. We will use a website randomizer to generate the distribution of the battles to the pairings."

Best,
Mike

What I do is create a match list once sign-ups and divisions are sorted. Then, I copy and paste a set of matches from my army list spreadsheet, which creates a list of randomized matches each time I open or refresh it. Next, I review the match list. Players only use or face a list once, so any additional matches generated get replaced by the next one available from the spreadsheet list. Any civil war matches are discarded and replaced in the same way. I've updated the sign-up post to clarify this.

Regards,

Karvon

Ah i see, so the armies for each matchup are selected from the output of your spreadsheet? In any case, count me in, was just curious about the details :D

I can find two kronenblatt LOS module for MP available - with and without the undo feature. Which one is being used for this tournament?

Also, once we download it, does it activate automatically (i.e. for this tournament and for all other games)?

We'll be using the regular one that doesn't block undo.

To use it, you have to select the mod before creating your game. Then, proceed as usual.

Which version do you wish to enter, regular, mirror or both?

Thanks for organizing this - I greatly enjoy how this tournament can force me to play some more rarely played army lists.

I'm in for mirror.

I'll be in for mirror.

By the way, I like the idea of more value to scouting with the 9 hex LOS. And I think I downloaded the right module (at least for medieval - presumably I'll also have to do it for FoG II). Just not sure if it automatically applied once downloaded and, if so, how to turn it off if another tournament doesn't adopt this rule change.

You will need to DL the mod in-game for both Ancient and Medieval. To enable the mod, you need to select it before creating the game; it does not automatically kick in and will not affect any of your other games.

Karvon

I think this is the one !
create game with reducted LOS.jpg

And if you create the game, you find the option here.

For Medieval, it's the same, only (for me, at least), the files was downloaded in the local folder "CAMPAIGNS" and not "MULTIPLAYER". You need to help him cross the street.
