Start of my Ancient Spanish

My main armies for FoG are due to be my rebased and added to DBM Punic Armies -Roman and Carthaginian. I had Spanish Allies for both with Celtiberian Warbands but have long planned to add to my Spanish. Luckily, Ian at my local club had decided he no longer wanted his Spanish troops ans so offered them to me. For free. As there was about 140 painted figures I insisted on paying him something! Here they are...

The paint job was very neat but with no shading/highlights and the basing was, well... basic.

So....I dug out the Klear and gave all of them a wash. I'm still finding my way with Klear so on some the wash worked well, others was barely noticeable and others still a little dark! So here is the new improved version. I had to paint a few command stands for the Scutarii BGs and needed 2 more stands of LH. I also re-based some of my Celtiberians and when I've finished painting 16 more I'll have another BG of them.

I have another LH BG and a Cav BG to do, My slingers. The 2nd Celtiberian BG and 2 maybe 3 more scutarii BGs. And some general.

Getting there slowly though!

On the left of the overall picture the eagle eyed will have spotted a Gallic Cavalry BG. I picked these up on eBay last week and have just re-based them. if you can ID the figure make it would be much appreciated! I'll not add to them (I have a lot of Essex and Corvus Belli to to paint) but it would be nice to know just in case.

EDIT: some better pictures would help!

The Gaullic cavalry may well be Tabletop figures. I have some Greek cavalry from Tabletop which are similarly one piece castings with horses in a similar pose.

Chris

http://www.15mm.co.uk/SEC8_Galatian_Cavalry.htm looks like it may be your figure.

Hi Chris,

I think you may be right about the figures. I'll not be adding them a there are far nicer figures around now but they help boost the troop numbers!

Cheers

I've just thrown them and my Romans on a small table to have at each other. Probably not a balanced game but more to play with the mechanics. Time permitting I will blog the result.

The Spanish will have a definite distaste for Roman skilled swords! :(

You can use the Spanish for so many other armies as well - Carthaginians and Romans
I like my Spaniards

Agree. Very flexible. Just means I have to have enough to have them as a main army and still have some for contingents in the opposition. I quite fancy putting a Syracusan army together at some point as well!. There's also the possibility of doing an Iberian campaign as well. Couple of the guys at the club have Roman and Carthaginian armies as well so it might work out well.
