Best way to simulate worn-out Hoplites ?

To have worn-out/demoralized Hoplites at the start of the battle of Ephesus (498 BC), should I rather :
1) make a couple of them disrupted from the beginning ? Often a very brief state.
2) use a few units of Shallow Armoured Hoplites, instead of plain Citizen/Armoured Hoplites ? It works well in the Marathon official scenario.
3) slightly reduce the number of men of a few units, from say 480 to around 400-430 ? For this option, is the only solution to create custom units in the Squads file with custom TotalMen ?
4) Use Raw Hoplites ?
5) Is there another solution ?
My goal is to make a bit weaker than plain Hoplites.
(I'm testing of these options, but would be happy to have advices)
