ya i know subs are cool, after tec-up, they can be good in packs(i alway make 5-6 subs)
after 1941/42 the oil limits them (so u only have subs up to 1942) oil runs out or very low oil
i think alot of oil, manpower and tec points are all a wasted on subs.
maybe im wrong, but sub v tank kill ratio?,ok with the subs in packs works well to a point. i can attack maybe 1 or 2 ships as long as they are on their tod, easy.two ships no point i can attack kill one or knock off 7 steps after that one of the subs will need repairs.ya after wirting this:axis naval a waste of time.just put 3 tanks in france sink that.

Even in a worst case situation Uboats are valuable for the Axis.
1)They're an EXCELLENT reconnaissance force. (What else can hang around every Allied port without being seen?)
2)For the British especially, convoys are crtitical. The British base PP is 35. Even at max was level, they can't really launch an offensive without convoy coming in. Just the threat of convoy attacks keeps large amounts of air & naval forces tied up in escort duties.
3)Transports never get better through tech, so they are also very susceptable to air & sub attacks.
4)Subs are cheap, and if you keep them within range of land based air, it can be quite bloody to destroy them after the aircraft counter attack.

ya reconnaissance is handy to a point, ,if u are playing op sealion it works.(like with tanks from the start they are great for everything) im thinking 3 or 4 subs would knock out 1 convoy in one move,u will take loses (attretion war) .smart players will scout for subs.transports are v weak.what player leaves transports for the wolf pack?sub are cheap, (2sub=1tank) and a tank on the cosat will do more than a sub,in my exprience. 2 ships wll lose to 5 or 6 sub Using air to protech subs is a waste(oil)air will take 1 or 2 hit (needs to be repair,
sub than was just attacked needs to be repaired, moves back to base(oil-repair)if a player using subs v well sinking convorys, all they stops is maybe 2 tanks (each convory=ave 30)? i have no problem taking on 2 extra tanks, because i know i have 3 extra tanks not 3,4or 5 sub sailing around and around.bang for your buck tanks
so axis naval:a waste of time??

If you play w/ BJR mod the war in Atlantic is worth waging. I usually build about 3 additional German subs. That lets you keep fight the convoys and keep an eye on England. I think sub recon can't be underestimated. Without it you won't know whether to go for Sealion or Africa.

Also, with a good investment in sub tech, you can go around sinking escort destroyers. In my last game against an opponent (in which I admittedly had 9 subs), I sunk over 8 destroyers plus a few BB's (and a CV) so dont underestimate how much damage subs can do if you play well and your opponent doesnt quite get things right. Sub wolfpacks can be deadly....
