Wheeling out of line

We had this a while back and I could not find the thread.
But it was agreed that the rear corner of a base can "swing" through as it wheels out of line.

"B" can wheel out and not worry about its rear base OR rear base corner passing through another base as the bases were representations deeper than history.

1) Did this apply only to friendly bases?

2) I believe it was that the base had to clear the other base before the BG had finished moving.

3) This all applies in impact as well?

Here are the two threads I kept track of:

viewtopic.php?t=6889
but I seem to recall some other discussion I couldn't find, either.

I had an issue recently where my HF wanted to drive off some skirmishers. Since the skirmishers were offset the only way to reach them was to wheel 1.5 MU then go straight forwards. The I rolled a 1 for my variable move distance, reducing the charge move to 1MU, so the rear corner ended halfay through another BG
We decided not to be too fussy about it at the time

Not being fussy sounds like the right response

.
If I had to make a guess on what the rules would call for, I would guess that the chargers stay where they were since they did not have sufficient movement to wheel clear.

i think i recall this one too.
the judgement seemed to be that as long as you ended entirely outside the battleline, no worries about clipping a corner on the way out.
BUT, if your pivoting on a corner takes you through a BG outside the battleline you're starting with, then no.

As I understand it, there is no problem with wheeling out of line as described in the original post. It has been stated that the BG is really wheeling on a turn point established by the right or left front corners of the first rank bases - the troops behind moving up to that point to begin wheeling out. The bases being an artificial game construct to hold/represent the troops, do not really have an extended tail that the rear of the base creates.

If your charge VMD does leave you overlapping other troops after wheeling you can drop back one file.

Ah! Excellent point. Didn't consider that.

Well that seems to have solved that one, good thinking.

Just one question again about that, if in the middle of an ennemy can a unit wheel even
if it is in side to side contact but not front corner to front corner?
If it is front corner to front corner on both ends of the front line?
Sorry again for asking that but we had an little issue at a game this saturday...
