Why is the latest patch so big?

Just bought the game and downloaded from the matrixgames server which took way longer than it should have. Imagine my dismay when I go to download the latest patch and see it is almost as big as the the game. 16GB for each file. I could have done it over Steam and been finished ages ago. Live and learn.
Much Much later...
The second file which I thought was a patch (HeadQuarters-WorldWarII-MultiUpdateComp-v1.04.09.exe) won't install because it seems it is the DLC and not a patch at all. It is asking for serial numbers to DLC I don't have. So, I downloaded another 16GB for no reason? It states on the download page: [PC] Update v1.04.08 Oct 01, 2025
Where does it say it is a DLC file?
---------------------------------
Here is what my AI says: The patch and DLC for Headquarters: World War II are separate updates. The game receives regular free updates that include new features, bug fixes, and improvements. For example, a free update released on September 9, 2025, added six new urban maps and major AI enhancements.
Another free update on August 5, 2025, introduced a new map pack with six expertly designed urban maps.
These updates are distinct from paid DLCs.
The DLCs, such as the Market Garden and Ardennes expansions, are additional paid content that introduce new campaigns, units, and missions. The Market Garden DLC, released on September 25, 2024, features an eight-mission British campaign focused on Operation Market Garden, including new units like the Staghound Tulip and Sherman Calliope.
The Ardennes DLC, released on February 18, 2025, offers two new campaigns—one for Germany and one for the United States—covering the Battle of the Bulge with 16 missions and new units.
While the game's version number has been updated to v1.04.08 as of October 1, 2025, this reflects both the base game and the cumulative impact of free patches and DLCs.
Therefore, patches are free updates, whereas DLCs are paid expansions.
