Hi everyone! I wanted to finally introduce the project I’ve been working on: **The Glorious Cause**, a large-scale American Revolution strategy/wargame that blends a grand strategic campaign map with detailed hex-based tactical battles. The goal is to create the most historically grounded Revolutionary War game ever made—drawing inspiration from *Civil War Generals 2*, *Birth of America*, and other classics—while giving players full control of Washington’s Army across both the strategic and battlefield levels. With development now well underway, we have two major updates to share with the community.

1. Major Project Milestone – Meeting With Slitherine

We’re excited to announce that we have scheduled an upcoming meeting with the publishing leadership at Slitherine to discuss *The Glorious Cause* and the long-term scope of the project. This is a huge step forward and an opportunity that could shape the future development and release trajectory of the game.

During the meeting, we’ll be presenting the full vision for the project, beginning with our first standalone release, **The Glorious Cause: The Battle of Trenton**. This scenario recreates Washington’s attack on Colonel Rall’s Hessian garrison and will introduce players to the tactical engine that drives the larger game.

We’ll also outline our multi-stage roadmap:

• Phase I – The Battle of Trenton

Standalone tactical scenario focusing on Washington’s famous winter attack.

• Phase II – The Battle of Trenton & Princeton

A strategic-tactical hybrid campaign where players can reshape Washington’s 1776–1777 operations—cutting supply lines, maneuvering around Howe, entrenching, or forcing entirely new engagements.

• Phase III – Full-Scale Strategic + Tactical War Game

Covering the entire American Revolution, timed alongside the 250th anniversary period.

We believe now is the perfect moment to bring a modern, deeply authentic Revolutionary War strategy game to life, especially given how few such titles exist. We’ll update the community once the meeting is complete.

2. First Playable Prototype Released – Version 0.1.0

Our first playable prototype, v0.1.0, is now available. This is not the final prototype for the Slitherine presentation, but it marks the very first working version of the tactical engine.

In this build, you can:

• Command all of Washington’s brigades and regiments

Plan your approach and coordinate the assault on Trenton.

• Face two outlying Hessian outposts

Overwhelm them quickly to prevent or delay the main Hessian force in town from fully alerting.

• Choose between volley fire or direct charges

Different approaches create different levels of noise—and different consequences.

Speed is crucial: if the Hessians in Trenton detect your advance too early, the battle becomes significantly harder and casualties rise sharply.

This build includes a very rough temporary GUI, but all essential mechanics—movement, volleys, charges, basic AI, and victory conditions—are functioning.

A newer version will be released in the next few days featuring:

- The fully redesigned Tactical GUI

- Improved Hessian alert mechanics

- Better AI logic

- Additional refinements and bug fixes

More Builds Coming Soon

Over the next 1–2 weeks, we’ll release multiple rapid-fire updates adding:

- Accurate troop numbers based on historical sources

- Updated Health / Morale / Organization values

- Improved Rally mechanics

- Detached companies for flanking & rapid reaction

- Marching, firing, volley, and casualty animations

- Retreat & rout behavior

- Terrain defensive modifiers

- Expanded tactical AI

- Many additional improvements

We Want Your Feedback

If you try the prototype, please share your thoughts. Your feedback will directly shape the tactical engine, balance, and historical direction of the project as we move toward the next major milestone.

More updates soon—and thanks again to everyone following the development of The Glorious Cause
