What does the limited stock slider do?

What does 'Limited stock' mean anyway?
I ran a search and came up with a bunch of posts but they still haven't sunk into my dull brain.
I see the default slider setting is '20' (below) but what exactly would happen if I tried sliding it to different positions?
And why wouldn't i want to leave it on '20'?
And does the setting apply to both the human player and the AI player?

Playing with "Limited Stock" means that you do not have unlimited number of replacements for all of your units including infantry. Instead, each turn you receive a set number of replacements. The number of replacements that you receive each turn is based on what number your slider is set at. I believe the default is 20.

I still don't get it (sniffle)..
Look, the Prestige per turn readout is '100' for a 'Tiny' random generator battle at a Default Limited Stock slider setting of '20', (top pic) but even when I set the Slider to its maximum setting of 100, (bottom pic), the PP turn readout is still '100'.

Hmm...I think you may be confusing the two. Prestige is how much "money" you receive each turn during a scenario. Limited Stock is how many replacements you can receive each turn for each unit (Tiger I, Fw 190A, Wehr Infantry, etc.). For example, I begin with only 20 Pioniere units. If you open the "buy" screen you will notice it. Now, let's say you have no pioniere units in your core and therefore you have not lost any. If you open the purchase screen on the next map it will now show 40 (20 + 20) pionere units available for purchase (or 20 additional replacements if you did have a pionier unit and lost some of its original starting strength during the preceding map). What this aims to do is limit the number of replacements you can buy to replace loses during and after a scenario. You must be more careful with your units because you will otherwise run out and not be able to replace you loses until you wait for more on the next map. It doesn't matter if they are elite replacements or green replacements.
I hope this settles your confusion.

Thanks, my screenshots are from the Random Mission Generator, so I'm assuming the Stock thing only works in the games assorted campaigns but the RMG doesn't make that clear, grrrr....

I don't really play the stand alone scenarios, but I imagine it would the same way but just for that scenario. No additional units, but you also start with that number with no hope for more.
