MP Players Wanted

I'm one of the beta testers and I have a small local group who plays Kingdoms MP (which includes my son). While we play to win, we are a pretty casual friendly group. We currently have England, Almorhavids, Sweden. Venice, Poland, Rus, Hungary and Calabria Apulia, and we are looking for up to 3 players. One to play a faction in the Spain/France region, and 2 players in the middle east (e.g. Fatimids or Seljuks, etc). If you are interested in joining, go ahead and respond here with the faction that you would like to play.

Rules... the only things we have been agreeing to is no more than 6 knights (or equivalent) per army, dont over manipulate the regional decisions, and let humans have a chance to surrender before destroying them. That's the major stuff.

Hi, I and Gribol are considering taking over some of the far eastern muslem nations, but we would need to discuss it a bit more if you havent found anyone else for now.

Im curious, are Knights so overpowered that you need to limit them to 6 per army in MP?

Impossible to defeat, in any terrain, or just plains?

In my game against Experienced AI, I have an army of English foot Huscarls, each Huscarl with a combat rating of 44. I also have knights of course for the flanks and crossbowmen for support. Total strength over 800. They could probably give that army of knights a hard time.

Maybe, but if you don't have the right units for that you will be wiped out, and there are many factions that can't get strong enough units to stop it.

Well if knights can run over almost any opposition, in any terrain, then they obviously need adjustment.

IMO, they should be at a disadvantage in forest and mountains at least.

This has been a topic we have been discussing in the beta group for a few months. Until a solution is officially adopted my work around in my MP games is to limit to no more than 6 knights per army....actually a more accurate way to say it is no more than 6 knights per region. I also have some additional rules to go along with that. No more than 2 knights can travel independently without an equal number of HI accompanying that force. So 3 knights would require 3 HI to travel with them at a minimum. This helps to prevent some other tricks and maneuvers that are "gamey" in my opinion. These rules only apply to knights (or cultural equivalent). So heavy cav with 9-7 or 8-8 ratings (or better) this rule applies to, nothing else.

Knights are disadvantaged in terrain (mountains, forest) but when you do the math on how it plays out, knights are generally equal to other better than most troops in that terrain. So if you can afford them, then they are a good basic troop type for field armies thus leading to overuse IMO. Surt showed EXACTLY what I am talking about.
