Hi guys!
In the next days, I will finish painting up an army for a 800 points tournament and you can see me army setup below.

As the games in the tourney will be me my first FoG games at all, I would appreciate some general hints on my Order of March (I'm totally clueless here), my terrain choices and the overall strategy to follow.

PS: The list stands as it is, I painted exactly these bases and no more. Some adjustments in BG sizes are possible though.
3 Roman Generals, all TCs

1 Average Legion of
4 Velites, protected option
4 Hastati/Principes, armoured option
4 Hastati/Principes
2 Triarii

1 Superior Legion of
4 Velites, protected option

To be honest theres more than a good chance of you not wining the terrian placing, looking at your army its mostly HF so try and block one flank with some terrian unless you play on the steppes.
Deployment IMO with this army is less off a worry as soon as the opponent knows what he is facing there will be no supprise.

Send the lights out front double move what you can and enjoy the games is it an open event your playing in?

I would agree with trying to close down one flank with terrain (though you are short of terrain holding infantry). Put down the Numidians first (though I would not use the close fighting foot on what would be the 'open' flank as they do not mesh well with all the light troops) use them as a unit of Medium Foot from the 'Optional Troops' section (Ligurians are exactly equivalent, though if you can afford it I suggest taking them as Spanish or Illyrians - the former requires less stretching of the Imagination). They can then operate on the 'closed' flank with some Velites in support.

Then put the Roman cavalry somewhere in the rear (I would go for 4 Armoured rather than 6 protected which will give you the points to buy the Spaniards) where they can manouvre easily. Then the Medium foot, the Velites (15 MU in if you wish) and the Legions last in whatever order you wish (normal wisdom says save the best till last).

Hope this helps

Re terrain choices I'd suggest difficult terrain to secure your flanks.

I'd put the Numidian cavalry in 4s - more manouverable.

Strategy. Skirmish with the Numidians on the most open flank. Use the velites to scare off enemy light foot. And, most improtant, get stuck in with the legions to the enemy infantry.

Hi guys, thanks for your advice.
I followed Graham's advice to split the Numidian cavalry into 4s and put one of them into the Roman LOC, just to be better able to skirmish on both flanks.

I'm going to attend this tourney: viewtopic.php?t=10611.

I had a test game against my girl-friend yesterday who played Early Germans.
I stuck to the above plan to skirmish on one flank and tried to bring the legions to bear ASAP. Other flank was guarded by the Numidian MF which ambushed in a plantation and managed a flank attack on some lured cavalry, too. :)

But the skirmishes didn't go well for me and I feared beginning to lose. But as my legions charged into the warriors, the tide turned. :)

I'm looking forward what the tournament brings, I guess I'm exposed to intense competition on the last place. :D

Do you like easy win? Or, simply, do you want to break with your girl-friend?

Not necessarily, if all your opponents play an Early Germans army... :D

P.S. I played an Early Germans army against a Roman army. I guess you can imagine result

Well, the Early Germans are my miniatures too and I know the army list is somewhat boring and perhaps not very good.
But I like them and will paint them up next.

And I wouldn't go so far to say it was an easy win, not when considered it was our first 800pts game FoG ever. I think anything can happen then.
We played Condensed FoG (400pts) before and that time, she won against me.

This time we quit with me having 10/12 APs and her having 9/19 APs.
