I am currently playing the historical battle of Las Navas de Tolosa as rated game in muliplayer as the Almohads and I noticed a bug and some really nasty mechanics, that may even let me loose this game now.

All begins after the trigger for the andalusian cavalry to leave the battlefield. I put myself in a defensive position to make most use of the almohad guard while using my light horse and berber cavalry to harass the enemy.

Now after the trigger, all of my defensive units placed on the edge of the map just dissapeared even they are not part of the andalusian cavalry (Like the one on the green circle shown in the second screenshot). I consider this a bug, since no matter what unit i place on the edge of the map now, it just dissapeared in the next turn. I lost some berber cavalry and my berber irregulars that way.

The andalusian cavalry meanwhile tried to escape from the battlefield. I positioned them inside my defensive circle (see red spot on the second screenshot), so they could have just used the safe path (shown with a blue arrow on the second screenshot) to leave the battlefield in safety. But of course they didn't so but used a path walking directly towards many enemy units (shown in the first screenshot and the path with the red arrow in the second screenshot). And of course because of that, they are getting wiped out by the enemy. For some reason, ome of the andalusian cavalry are still on the battlefield but don't move at all even they could easily leave the battlefield (shown for example with the red circle on the second screenshot)

I also don't think they should count as own units routed, since they are not longer part of the army or at least they should escape in a more logical way. Who would escape directly towards enemy units while having an option to just leave the battlefield on a safe spot?

It probably is a bug. You seem to have outwitted the code. Special automated unit moves for particular scenarios are very hard to code without the possibility of some particular circumstances stopping them from working as intended.

Is it possible to fix the bug?

Regarding the movment of the andalusian cavalry: Maybe one could code it that way, that they do never move towards enemy units, if there still is another path free? Or at least make it so that they are not counted if routed by the enemy, since this is more than frustrating since they shouldn't even count beeing part of the own army anymore.

Probably, but there is a big risk of introducing alternative bugs in the process. "Intelligent" behaviour such as you suggest just requires too much development for a single scenario.
