Karvon's Alans defeated Ironclad's Thracians 42 - 15

The field wasn't very horse friendly; a river cut off about a quarter of the field on the right, with a steep hill and dense woods along its bank further narrowing that flank. Woods dominated both corners on the left. Scattered hills and a few rough patches in the center gave plenty of places for foot to defend.

We deployed 4 roughly equal commands of mixed horse; a front line of lights, a middle line of bow and a final shorter line of lancers across the front. The two outer commands had a couple of light foot bow attached to help scout the woods long the flanks.

The Thracians deployed a mass of their medium foot in a long line across the center with lights screening and on the flanks. A few horse were in reserve.

We sent our own lights forward to began showering them with arrows, while holding the rest back a bit. The Thracians pushed forward pretty aggressively, driving our lights back. We used long range charges to drive in their lights and then patiently concentrated fire to selectively grind down exposed units. The Thracians continued to surge forward, driving us slowly back, but getting more spread out and disconnected along the front. This cycle continued, but our shooting bore results and more of their units disrupted or fragmented, further breaking up their formations as these were left behind or shuffled to the rear. A few finally were broken by fire, or timely charges by our horse, which allowed us to break through their advancing line in a couple of places with our pursuers.

We used our superior mobility to almost completely withdraw our right wing and redeploy to further concentrate fire and envelop exposed enemy units in the center and on our left. These reinforcements allowed us to flank several exposed foot and destroy them in a turn or two. Our lights in his rear chased down and destroyed a few of his scattered lights and fragmented unit or two. This collapsed his right, our horse enveloped and saw off a few more of his foot and horse, and the Thracians fled the field.

The Alans escaped thanks to a couple of late rallies and a couple of good CT checks which allowed fragmented lights to escape. Close, but no cigar

Indian (Hindu North) 600-1049 AD against Sassanid Persian 629 - 651 AD : 48 - 20

Persian suffered an early loss of one of one of their monted general blocked on the beach of the waterway without escape possible. The Indian center line composed with a mix of elephant, archer and close combat fighter resisted while the right wing indian wing overwhelmed the Persians

Both battles were actually challenging, the score doesn't well the struggle, that was decided by quicker flanking + fortune in my dice rolls. Some of the most fun battles Ive had in FoG2.

The main action was a bloody cavalry duel won by the Bedouins. This proved decisive after the Arab infantry on the right flank held their own against a charge of SIX! elephants. GG

Game very close all the time, none of the army took a significantly advantage. I had the chance to be closer to a target with my infantery at the end.
