Simple move query.

Hi again
Another query from last nights game.
My opponents had a BG of LH within 6 MU of my BG's in a column 1 wide and 6 deep. They wanted to turn 90 degrees and then contract by 2 bases and then advance short. This would leave them 4 bases in the front rank and 2 bases in the back rank.
They said that as all these were all simple for LH then it was a simple move. I believed that contracting by 2 bases was part of a simple advance and could not include a 90 degrees turn beforehand. I went with the majority decision as it had no impact on the game. I think they could have just expanded to 3 bases wide and 2 bases deep and then just wheeled to get a similar effect.
Any thoughts?
Rob
