Faction: Rome
Difficulty: Difficult
Turn: 1
National Trait, Free Unit Support: 10

My army stack is in Latium.

It is made up of the following units and costs
1. Early Republic Legion, Upkeep, Money, 15; Metal, 4; Manpower, 4.
2. Early Republic Legion, Upkeep, Money, 15; Metal, 4; Manpower, 4.
3. Alae, Upkeep, Money, 12; Metal, 3; Manpower, 2.
4. Alae, Upkeep, Money, 12; Metal, 3; Manpower, 2.
5. Velites, Upkeep, Money, 3; Manpower, 3.
6. Velites, Upkeep, Money, 3; Manpower, 3.
7. Velites, Upkeep, Money, 3; Manpower, 3.
8. Velites, Upkeep, Money, 3; Manpower, 3.
9. Cavalry, Upkeep, Money, 6; Manpower, 3.
10. Light Cavalry, Upkeep, Money, 3; Manpower, 2.
11. Light Cavalry, Upkeep, Money, 3; Manpower, 2.

Question 1: If I've got my maths right, the total upkeep costs of my army add up to Money 78; Metal, 14; Manpower, 31

Yet the upkeep totals listed under Rome Army to the lefthand side of the army panel are: Money, 57; Metal 10; Manpower 24,

How do I account for the disparity since if I get the first 10 most expensive units for free, the upkeep cost of my army should equal the upkeep cost for my 11th unit, i.e. the lIght Cavalry with its upkeep cost of Money 3, Manpower 2

Question 2: Along the Top Menu Bar, Under Money Income, the Military Upkeep cost is listed as -2, and under Manpower Generation the Military Upkeep Cost is listed as minus -2.

Again, how do we account for this since I would expect it to correspond with the cost of my 11th and cheapest unit, resulting in a -3 for money and a -2 for Manpower? Why the disparity again?

I would be much obliged if someone can demystify all this for me.

EDIT: This has been resolved on the following thread

Slight additions:

1) Harsh weather incurs temporary 25% penalty on the Upkeep for the whole map. Unit experience levels increase Upkeep as well.

2) Remember about Units inflation. Not relevant for your example, but when planning for future. About 10 units with asterix is max you want before severe diminishing returns kick in. UNLESS your economy can support such excesses later on.

3) Provincial Capital can be moved at any time. Queue up Disbmantle action, wait 2 turns and follow the next rule: new Prov. Capital location is determined by choosing the highest current Culture production among the potential regions.

Extra: you can separate any amount of units from the given stack and hover over the flag on the bottom left army screen to see the exact resource cost.
