Hi everyone

At present I either buy my figures piecemeal on Ebay or have a guy at our local club paint them up.

I'm really daunted by the prospect of painting the figures myself as I don't recall being particularly artistic at school.

Are there any good 15mm painting books people can recommend. All I've found are books for larger scales.

I'd recommend the painting guide on Tim Poter's site if you're not that confident - http://www.madaxeman.com - it can get you a "looks good from 3 feet away" army quite quickly

I took a class from my local Games workshop store
they obviously teach you on 28/30mm figures because that is what they have
In fact my teenage daughter took the class with me and my wife sat in as well
It was $50 BUT they give you stuff that is worth $50 when you start
I think it was 6 sessions - that covered all kind of stuff
BUT /AND
It is all applicable to figures
I learned a ton
Once you paint some 30mm figs with ALL of the detail - the 15mm fig get less daunting
Games workshop stuff is expensive - AND I know that a LOT of gamers hate them
BUT -- I like their book on painting figures
I learned a ton about color theory and shading

Hammy is correct (of course) - start with the 4 foot rule - if it looks good from 4 feet then you are good to go
after a while you can go to the three foot rule and then after a while you will get to the arms length rule

Also - watch who ever in your group paints well - and learn from them
get someone to paint a few of each type that you need and COPY -

Also - a poorly painted figures it better than an unpainted figure

Also go to conventions
many times there are figs for sale
at least you can see them before you get them
also look at the good painters in the vendor area and talk to them - pick up pointers
BUT write stuff down - so you don't forget
