Slitherine

I've come back to this game again. I farm for heroes. I currently have one M+1 Grenadier, all the rest of my Infantry units have a D+3 hero. I'm far enough along so that my infantry units could get a second hero at any time. I'm undecided whether to go for a M+1 to have 1943 Grenadiers or another D+3 to have D+6 1943 Wehrmacht infantry units.

I like movement heroes for infantry to use for Grenadiers or Pioneers as both are useful units but annoying for their low movement. However, I just take whatever I'm given, so obviously I end up with some heroes that others would consider rubbish!

I too accept just about any hero for infantry as they are pretty versatile as is, but my favorite heroes are as follows for infantry:

1 spotting for cavalry or Kradschutzen, fro the 4 spotting capability.
3 def to prevent them from bothering to fire their artillery at me
2 def for same reason
1 movement to get extra room to maneuver
3 att to help deal more damage
2 att for same reason
1 in, 1 att, and 1 def are not as necessary as the init cap comes into effect more often than not.
