Small Faction.

I've been looking for one to play. So far, everyone I've looked at doesn't appear to be playable. The Authority gain number is way below the required size for government change. Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I saw this on another forum by Cranky corvid:
"1. Build better forts (they have a chance to increase your authority via an event, and higher-level ones provide a small direct authority bonus as well)
2. The structures in each category that unlock the highest tier of structures (lord's manor, craftsman borough, etc) give a small direct authority bonus every turn
3. Regions with 2+ nobles have a chance to trigger a bonus authority event, the more nobles the better. Use the 'Promote freemen to noble' RGD
4. Stewardship production contributes to chances of getting another bonus authority event
5. Sneak attack, claim-spam, get alliances or join religious wars to start wars cheaply, then farm the enemy armies/garrisons for authority (just be careful about the negative impact on authority from realm size for seizing regions)"

I'll try this next time I have a go at a small nation, my own play style is more #2 and #4 but that is difficult to do with small nation.

Don't start any early wars.
Don't use auth for edicts if it brings you into the red zone.
But use it to buy #2 when its clear you can't go into green.

Thank you. I'm not sure what you mean by farm enemy armies/garrisons. Please explain.

You get auth for winning battles (and not from losing, there you get anti-auth...)
