making peace with an eliminated nation

Playing Cordoba and I managed to finally eliminate Castille by taking over their last region. However next turn it showed that I was still only occupying the last batch of conquered regions. I had expected them to automatically become mine since Castille was no longer on the map. I looked about but could not find any hidden Castille in france anywhere. I went into diplomacy where Castille was still listed and offered them peace terms of I absorb nation and they had 100% accept. Next turn I own all their lands and become Al-Andalus.
Is this working as desired with eliminated kingdoms or was it an oddity of the end of Castille and my changing to Al-Andalus?

If they still have an army or fleet somewhere they can zombie around a bit as there is hope, the absorb is definitely the way to go.

They could have allies. Imagine an edge case where they have a powerful army but lose their only remaining region. Should they not be given the chance to retake it? That’s why, if they can be sustained by another nation, they can linger.
However, an Absorb proposal will take that into account, considering their combat power. If you have a good chance, it means they are not in a strong position. If several factors combine and the chance is low (although it will be improved in 1.03), it means they still have a card to play.

Not sure if they were hiding somewhere or not. I have not seen any sign of them since I absorbed them. In an act of celebration or pure jealousy I have become target of at least 2 crusades. I have managed to peace them out eventually. I am afraid to launch a jihad since it will bring more war upon me, although Jerusalem appears to be a Kingdom of infidels right now....

Hope non-SAU ships receive zilch value, cuz when they are hiding in the neutral port its incredibly hard to target them or even find in the first place, altho Ledger helps. Very exploitable in MP combined with getting far away "insurance" regions similar to Empires.

Good points, I'll try to come up with something.
