Discussion Regarding a Vassal Engine Module for FoGAM

Hello Slitherine Representatives, Everyone else,

I thought it would be really cool to be able to play the Field of Glory Ancients and Medieval Tabletop online since the community is fairly small and scattered, near as I can tell. However, I did not want to proceed without confirming that I would be breaking any rules/laws/agreements.

Vassal Engine is an open source tool that allows you to recreate board games and tabletop games digitally.

I have done the following
  • I created a Vassal Engine Module
  • It does not contain any sections of information from the book
  • It allows you to create generic "units" and change their icons to represent different status effects, but i gave it all the functionality necessary to play a simple FOGAM game
  • The module only exists on my personal computer as of right now and I will not be uploading it until I can verify it follows all rules/laws/agreements
  • It has enough functionality to play a simple, no terrain game, of Field of Glory
What I am looking for
  • Permissions to share the module to the community so that they can contribute to building it and play the game with players over the internet
  • Permission to link the forum post on slitherine.com containing the Field of Glory rulebook in the modules description
  • Permission to upload the module to the Vassal Engine Module database (in combination with point 2, this could attract new players)
I am willing
  • To share the module as I have created so far with an slitherine representative privately so they can verify none of their intellectual property is in the module
  • if denied, keep the module for personal use only (i am using it to learn the game solo)
I posted this on the forums as I am not sure how to reach out to the relevant slitherine representatives and wanted to see what the community thought of the idea.

Ideally I would like to see module that the community can grow and improve in functionality that links to slitherines forums for any intellectual property (the rulebook, the army list etc) allowing players compete against player they would normally never be able to play against, while respecting slitetherines intellectual property.

Thank you and I look forward to hearing back from you, or if your a member of the community, your thoughts.

Looking for feedback on the unit visuals Pt 1.

In order to keep things simple I made my own symbols inspired by NATO symbols.

All bases are the correct size for 15mm ruleset.

Not sure why the inline image is not working, added direct link above.
Edit: Fixed inline, keeping link

From Left to Right
Heavy Foot Unit -> Medium Foot Unit -> Light Foot Unit -> Mob -> Cavalry & Camelry -> Light Horse & Light Camelry -> Knights -> Cataphracts and Cataphract Camels -> Chariots -> Elephants -> Artillery -> Battle Wagons -> Commander -> Fortifications -> Supply Camp

Looking for any suggestions to make the units more distinct/understandable. The symbols in question are the little squares in the top right. The little dots to the left are used to set visual representations of "quality" "armor" and "drill" status. I will make a separate forum post for that

Column 2 from top to bottom shows Quality levels
C2 -> Row 1 - Poor
C2 -> Row 2 - Average
C2 -> Row 3 - Superior
C2 -> Row 4 - Elite

Column 3 from top to bottom shows Armour levels

C3 -> Row 3 - Armoured
C3 -> Row 4 - Heavily Armoured

Column 4 from top to bottoms shows drill state

Reserving post to share Terrain setup when i get a chance

Actually could use thoughts on this one as well.

Debating between making a bunch of random shapes, or a few simple shames and make it possible to layer them to make your own custom shape
