Rosedelio (Georgian) defeats rockmanbob123 (Milanese) 49-10

The Georgian horse archers flanked the medium foot on their left trying to take the steep hill. The horse archers on the right harrassed the knights. In the center, the Georgian spears held out against knightly charges.

Rosedelio (Milanese) defeats rockmanbob123 (Georgian) 42-3

The battlefield got narrowed by the steep hills, which disadvantaged the Georgian horse archers. One lucky chain of pursuits and catches by a Mercenary Men-at-Arms helped end the battle quicker.

gort7078 principesromanes Dacian 89-106 AD Burgundian 1450-1464 AD

Principesromanes (Dacian) defeats gort7078 (Burgundian) 61-29

The armies met on a large open plain with a small wood on the Dacian left. The Burgundian knights massed on the far side of the wood and charged down on the Dacian flank while the Burgundian infantry held back. The Dacians considered swarming the knights with pure numbers before the Burgundian infantry could join, but the first mounted charge showed this to be a fool's errand. There really was nothing warbands could do against knights, except maybe charge the Burgundian infantry. The Dacian charge overwhelmed the Burgundian infantry. While the bowmen and crossmen could be readily torn apart by the warbands, the dismounted men at arms proved to be more of a challenge. Ultimately, a few lucky warband impacts and sheer numbers overwhelmed even them.

Principesromanes (Burgundian) defeats gort7078 (Dacian) 51-0

The Burgundians relied on a screen of dismounted men at arms and a few knights to screen their bowmen and cannons. The cannons and volley of arrows successfully induced the Dacians to charge. However, many of the warbands disrupted before contact from the sky full of arrows and the unknown technology of fire-spewing canons. When the knights countercharged, the Dacian line crumbled.

There really is nothing warbands can do against knights except win the battle faster elsewhere.

Thanks for the games!

Jorgito78 principesromanes Indo-Parthian 60 BC - 130 AD Seljuq Turkish (East) 1037-1194 AD

principesromanes (Seljuq Turks) defeats Jorgito78 (Indo-Parthian) 50-6

The battlefield was mostly open, except a bit of rough on the Turkish right. As such, that wing got the bulk of the Turkish foot archers. Aside the foot archers, the Turkish army was comprised almost entirely of mounted archers. The Turks also brought along their elephants to challenge the Indo-Parthian cataphracts. The Indo-Parthians also brought a large contingent of horse archers, and in particular brought an abundance of light horse. They even had a few elephants of their own. The key difference in the armies was the core of cataphracts in the centre of their line.

With greater missile capabilities, the Turks pressed aggressively on both flanks. The Turkish armour provided a significant edge, and the Into-Parthian archers were quickly finding themselves outmatched. The Indo-Parthian cataphracts charged forward to lend their weight to the contest, but the Turks were largely able to avoid contact. And more problematically, the elephants marched forward to meet the cataphracts. The Indo-Parthian massed archers were unable to effectively disrupt the elephants. With the chaotic riding on the flanks turning decisively in the Turks favour and the victorious horse quickly closing in on the centre, the Indo-Parthians fled the field.

Thanks for the match. The cataphracts really are a challenge to use effectively in a cavalry shootout.

gort7078 principesromanes Italo-Norman 1050-1060 AD Gutian 2190-2115 BC

principesromanes (Gutian) defeats gort7078 (Italo-Norman) 56-12

The armies met on a mostly open battlefield but with a hill and patch of rough on the Gutian left flank. A small, steep knoll and woods protected the rear of the Italo-Norman left flank. The Gutians deployed in a massive line - hoping to swarm the enemy with numbers. The Italo-Normans anchored their left flank on the knoll with some massed bowmen and crossbowmen with their cavalry on the other flank.

Seeing the deployment, the Gutians intended to press forward and encircle the recused Italo-Norman left flank while holding off the knights on the hill and in the rough. However, the Italo-Normans were none to keen to have their knights harassed by archers sitting in the rough so charged forward. They managed to catch some of the Gutians out in the open but the rest of the Gutian line was quickly closing in. Unfortunately for the Gutians, there were some more crossbowmen and bowmen hidden in the woods that needed to be taken care of. The more numerous Gutians were up to the task and quickly found flanking opportunities that allowed them to pick apart the Italo-Norman line.

Thanks for the game!

croats had the high ground but started taking hits from crossbows...then the croat main force of raw spears deployed from the southern wood and despite the valiant knight charges, they swamped the enemy left flank, while the knight charges onto the up hill did not break the croat line.....numbers over quality this time !
