" Something is rotten in the state of Denmark..." Quote from the tragedy “Hamlet” (act. 1, scene 4) by William Shakespeare (1564-1616)..
Let's look at the Army of the Kingdom of Denmark in World War II.
It is usually written that the ground forces consisted of 2 divisions, but this is not entirely accurate. There were 2 divisions: Jutland and Zealand (Jydske og Sj?llandske Division), but these were not militaryformations in the usual sense, but administrative entities. The Danish army consisted of separate regiments.
The ground forces had 8 infantry (1 of them guards), 2 cavalry and 3 artillery regiments, 3 anti-aircraft divisions and 2 sapper battalions.
The infantry regiments consisted of 4 infantry battalions (the Guards Regiment - 3). Each regiment has an anti-tank company: 4 20-mm automatic guns and 4 37-mm anti-tank guns;
The infantry battalion included 4 infantry companies and a support company
- Infantry company:
- Control: captain, senior sergeant, 2 observers, 7 riflemen, 3 signalmen;
- Reconnaissance squad: lieutenant and 8 reconnaissance riflemen;
- 4 infantry platoons, each with:
- Control: lieutenant, sergeant, 4 grenade launchers (with rifle grenade launchers), 2 messengers and a sniper.
- 3 rifle squads, each with: corporal, grenade launcher, machine gunner and assistant, 5 riflemen;
- Machine gun compartment: composition, like a rifle compartment, but the machine gun is on a tripod, and in the rifle compartment - on a bipod.
- Battalion support company:
- 2 machine gun platoons: 2 heavy machine guns each;
- Mortar platoon: 2 81 mm mortars;
- Anti-tank platoon: 2 20-mm automatic guns;
Cavalry regiments:
- The Guards Hussar Regiment (Gardehussarregimentet) consisted of 3 cavalry squadrons.
- The Jutland Dragoon Regiment (Jydske Dragoon Regimen) included 2 cavalry, 3 scooters and a squadron of armored vehicles. It consisted of all Danish armored vehicles: 5 pieces of Swedish production: 2 PV M36 and 3 PV M39.
It was planned to put armored motorcycles into service. In 1932, 1 Harley Davidson motorcycle was reserved from Landsverk. But this idea was not developed.
Artillery regiments:
- 1st regiment: 2 heavy (8 150 mm howitzers and 4 105 mm cannons) and light (12 75 mm cannons) divisions.
- 2nd Regiment: 4 light divisions, a total of 48 75 mm guns.
These 2 regiments were part of the Zealand division. The Jutland Division had the 3rd regiment, which consisted of a heavy (8 150 mm howitzers and 4 105 mm cannons) and 3 light (12 75 mm cannons each) divisions.
Anti-aircraft artillery: 3 divisions. 13th and 14th anti-aircraft divisions - 12 75 mm anti-aircraft guns and 2 20 mm guns. The defense of Copenhagen was the 10th Anti-Aircraft Division, which had 14 75 mm guns, plus 20 mm guns and anti-aircraft machine guns.
