Manufacturers for MR Roman allied people

Hi guys!

I'm currently building up my MRR army and plan to own all options the army list offers.
Now I'm stuck on the Ligurians, Thureophoroi and Trallian Slingers.
What miniatures do you use for them?

I searched the usual suspects (Xyston, Essex and some others) but didn't manage to find enough or even some appropriate miniatures at all.
Xyston has nice Thureophoroi, but they seem to be the leading miniatures in giant-ness in their range. The comparison Madaxeman did at his website with Xyston's Thracians made me laugh and weep at once. :(

Donnington has some Ligurians, but I want some more variety.

And what exactly should Trallian slingers look like? You can often read things about them but nobody seems to know what people they were exactly or how they looked.

I thought about mixing Xyston's Thracian and Greek Slingers. Can anybody say something about the size of those Xystons?

For Illyrians, I bought Old Glory. Anyone you can share his thoughts on these miniatures with me? OG15s seems to be the only manufacturer that has more than a single pose of Illyrians.

Looking forward to your thoughts...

Funny.
Someone pointed that out to me in another forum, too.

I didn't take a look an Gladiator until now, because I don't like their looks but then I remembered that Black Hat has not only Gladiator, but also the old Hobby Products miniatures. They are real 15mm, I know.

I will have to substitute with my Hobby Products Chinese to see if they mix well with Alain Toullers bigger miniatures. Thanks for the suggestion.
Any others?

Spookily I'm spending some of my lunch hour at work cleaning up a couple of bags of samnite allies by Warmodelling (Fantassin) - very nice figures, more standard Xyston size than standard Essex. Can be seen at: warmodelling.com or warmodelling.co.uk

Another option is Feudal Casting from LMK/Quick Reaction Force. Don't have either of the italian allies they do (they have options for medium & heavy foot which fits well with the MRR army list options) but I do have quite a number of their "standard" MRR romans - reasonable castings, relatively few varieties of pose (esp the triarii, hastati & velites - only 1 pose of each sadly) but pretty cheap: http://quickreactionforce.co.uk/

Italian Allies are already done with Alain Touller miniatures, but thank you.
I know Fantassin miniatures but never dared to buy them. Besides reading they are more 20mm than 15mm, they seem to have also 20mm-miniature-like anatomy, meaning more slender and realistic than chunky like 15s. Can you confirm this? How do they mix up with more "traditional" manufacturers?

See my post here re Warmodelling size/compatability. Madaxeman did some shots a while back of the naked gallic fanatics which were a bit tall & spindly, but the roman figures seem to fit alongside others (such as the feudal castings) rather better:

Thanks for the replies until now.
But unfortunately my initial questions were left unanswered.

Anyone has some hints on these?

For thureophoroi I would use Xyston peltasts with thureos shields (available separately from Xyston). These will mix well with other manufacturers and there is a huge variety in the packs. Beautiful figures as well (I have a tonne of them).

For trallian slingers I would use any generic "greek" slinger figure.

Ligurians are a bit tricky. I have the Magister Militum ligurians mixed in with my germans in my Early German army and they are generic bearded javelinthrowers with cloaks and rectangular shields. Judging from the location of liguria (north-west italy, and in to Gaul) I think it would be safe (-ish) to assume they would look fairly similar to gauls, so I guess unarmoured gallic figures would be appropriate.

Sound advice from the Archer
I used O/G15 greek archers
and Peltasts
I think you can get away with whatever looks good to you
If you are happy - you are good to go - IMHO
